Exclamation Breast cancer drug used instead of clomid!

Breast Cancer Drug Tamoxifen

The breast cancer drug Tamoxifen can be used to induce ovulation! They say it works the same way as clomid but some women respond better! I found this article (and a few others) while searching for infertility treatments. I cant believe this! I have a wonderful REI (known nationally as the leader in PGD for IVF) and he has NEVER told me about this! I did not respond well to clomid. I had to take high doses to ovulate (which decreases pregnacy rates). My grandmother had breast cancer 6 years ago and takes Tamoxifen. She said the main side effect is blood clots (but the risk is about the same as in birth control). You may also get hot flashes but NO MOOD SWINGS !!! Has anyone else heard about this? Anyone try it? Also Tamoxifen is VERY cheap vs. the price of clomid!

I take femara, which is also a hormone given to ladies who have breast cancer. It has made me ovulate both months I have taken it. AND it is alot easier on the lining of the uterus.

I did a search on the net and pulled up all kinds of info. Try searching it and you can find out anything you want to know.

I've never heard of femara. Well its nice to know there are other options! What are the side effects of femara?

I am puzzled with this reasearch....as you are not supose to get PG while on this drug as it can be harmful to a fetus.

i think it is taken like clomid for a number of days to make you o and then you stop. i am not sure how long the drug would stay in your system but I do know it is VERY unsafe to take clomid while pg as well. I have not read the research but just thought I would say my two cents. Also a reminder Clomid is only 9 bucks in the US for 50mg at Wal Mart hehe

Yeah its like clomid you can take it anywhere between CD 4-10. Kristin isnt it $9 for 5x 50mg? So I took 150mg which would make it $27. The Tamoxifen is only $10 here for a 30 day supply (which you dont even need that many). And its covered by insurance b/c its not considered an infertility med!

How interesting I make Femara for Breast Cancer where I work. I never knew you could use this the same as clomid.
