Default Breastfeeding till age 5 and 8...

I was doing searches on breast feeding and came across this Video http://www.zoobat.com/?p=70 on how a British Mother was still breast feeding at the ages of 5 and 8.

Is it appropriate like this Mother in the Video to breastfeed for such long ?
I have some serious doubts about it ....

So sorry about that short comment. . .I went to go find it and noticed one of the 3yo with the syrup! NOT GOOD. I'll see if I can't find it.

The 8yo is bizarre IMO, but the 5yo doesn't bother me depending on the child and the situation.

Okay--sorry I can't find it. Anyhow, there was a lengthy discussion about how our culture (American at least) really does not embrace bfing the way it should, how it is actually natural food, etc., etc. Most people are against bfing this long. I'm sure you'll get plenty of responses.

I know the WHO says you should really feed unitl the age of 2 , and alot of ladies ( like Valabove) have fed until the babiesa are older but for me, I think anything beyind when the child can pick up your shirt in public is too far for me, the longest Ihave fed is 14 months JMHO

This thread is 2.5 years old - (Feb. 2006)
Has there been any change in BF conception since then?

A lot of those people are no longer on this board. So yeah, we could have the conversation again and you'd probably get different type answers.
Tracy. . .at least for me. . .my toddlers definitely do not lift my shirt in public. You teach them not to just like you teach them not to touch a light socket or pull down knick knacks.

And just to correct the above statement (you know I have to right?) WHO, along with the AAP and UNICEF all say you should breastfeed until the mom and/or child no longer want to. WHO says you should feed a minimum of 2 years.

I said this in the other thread too though--I encourage bfing until 2 and then after that I neither encourage it or discourage it. Every single one of my children (twins included) have weaned between 3 1/2 and 4. So when I hear of someone nursing until age 8--I'm wondering what's being done to 'encourage' that relationship. I would think that in most cases, an 8yo would simply have other things to do.
