Default Bridal Shower & Different Traditions

Drove to see my oldest sister's home (1 1/4* away)
for a bridal shower.
Her son is getting married to a lovely young lady.
They are both adults ( 27- 2.

My niece-to-be is very southern from Arkansas and just
a lovely lady. We were able to meet her parents.
She is just perfect for my nephew and she has southern manners too.

Bridal shower at church, had about 40 ladies in attendance.
The tables were all decorated in fall colors,
buffet food was delicious,
and dessert was a pretty cake.

What has surprised me most is that a few of her southern traditions differ from ours. Neither is right or wrong, just different.

Southern: bride does not attend the rehearsal because it is considered bad luck. She has a stand-in during the rehearsal.
She does attend the rehearsal dinner though.

Ours: collect all the bows from the gifts, place on a paperplate for wedding rehearsal as a bouquet for the bride-to-be.

Southern: groom's cake.
I remember this one of that show, "Places of the Heart" with the armidillo groom's cake.

Ours: a 'secretary' writes down various phrases the bride-to-be states as she opens her gifts at the shower.
Afterwards, the bride-to-be's words are made into the game of "Cute Things the Bride Will Say on Her Wedding Night."
It's a fun and silly game.

Both: tradition that breaking the ribbons on the gifts mean that for each broken ribbon, a baby will be born to the to the new couple.

Doesn't mean that one is right and one is wrong, just a mixing of traditions that both families love to share.
