Default Caffeine and Breastfeeding~

I have been looking all over the net for some info...I can't really find anything worth reading about it.

Bottom line is, should I feel guilty for the 2-3 pops I am drinking a day?
Can it effect Evan's little body in a dangerous way?

I drink coffee and it definately doesn't affect Devon. But all babies are affected by different things. I asked a similar question a few months ago and Val said that just after the twins were born she was having a couple cups of coffee a day. How else are we supposed to get through the day?? LoL!

i eat dark chocolate a lot and it never bothered Gabby, however some kids are sensitive so if you think it's affecting him just cut it out for about a week and see if that has any change

If it doesn't bother the baby, it's fine. For some babies, caffeine can be a trigger for upset tummy but in general, there is such a minute amount that passes through the milk that it is inconsequential. Most medicine is the same way. . .

And yes, I drank 4-6 cups of coffee in the morning and then about 2 liters of Pepsi throughout the day at the beginning to stay awake.

I really don't think it effects him...I can't tell any difference.

I just was reading up on SIDS and it is just so scary. I don't want to do anything that will hurt my child or contribute to something happening to him
This stage of infancy is so wonderful yet so hard. You worry about everything when they are so small...

I have never heard of caffeine being associated with SIDS. But SIDS is scary. Oh and just for the record ladies, I don't actually recommend several cups of coffee and liters of Pepsi per day. But I did it and the twins came out just fine.

If you don't feel a difference it seems to be fine to me. I could feel a difference while being preggers with ds#1. He reacted on me drinking coffee, but dd doesn't show any signs of too much caffeine.
SIDS is scary but it's not related to caffeine. There are neuronal changes going on around their 4th month which also include their ability of getting an automated breathing pattern. But that isn't affected by caffeine.

I think I asked this question too, but coke is my god so I can't go without it and all my kids are ok

You really shouldn't drink too much caffeine while you're pg. (The jury is out on whether you can have some.) But that is a different scenario than bfing. The mechanisms by which something like caffeine would pass through to the baby are different. While you are pg, caffeine definitely passes to the baby and has been associated with small birthweights. But caffeine does not pass to the baby in bfing in large quantities.

Tracy you are funny.
