It is specific.

I have bought ones successfully with catalinas that do not include the words "not valid on gift cards or gift certificates". I have bought Walgreens gift cards and gas gift cards, etc.

I bought Pantene shampoos which then didn't print out the catalina I expected - so I returned them and I had paid with RR and the rest with a gift card from previous mail in rebate - the manager put the return sum on my gift card.
