Default Cat Counter Problems

Hey everyone,

So I'm having the hardest time keeping one of my cats off the counters. I'm tired of cleaning up cat hair from my kitchen work areas. He jumps down when he sees me coming (because he knows I'll use the spray bottle on him), but I know he goes up there at night (I can see his little paw prints on the stove top). I've tried putting double-sided tape up there, aluminum foil, even mouse traps rigged to have a wider range but a harmless (but loud) snap.

Those keep him off as long as they're on the counter, but I'd have to have them covered any time I'm not using them, because if he doesn't see these deterrents, he's not deterred! I don't know what to do about it.

This is getting to be a real pain! He even got into our loaf of bread on the counter the other day. He puked all afternoon (I called the vet about it and they said just to let him empty his stomach), so I thought at least that would teach him not to eat the bread. But then a few days later he did it again! So if anyone has any suggestions about how to keep my cat off the counters, please help!
