Default Catzilla vs The World

A few days ago, I awoke to find Catzilla dashing madly about. Fall was certainly in the air, and the leaves were falling outside, scattering in the wind. I thought it was normal for him to want to sit at the window and look at the leaves. I thought that his tail twitching and meowing was also normal, as he does this when he sees birds and squirrels.

What I was not prepared for was for him to take a flying leap at the plate glass window to kill the falling leaves.

I caught him. He weighs 20 pounds, most of it muscle. He is an indoor cat, but was a feral rescue as a kitten - I adopted him from the county shelter at 10 weeks. He is now 7 years old

He proceeded to go to the back door in the kitchen and tried to climb the kitchen window to do the same thing. At least that is double hung. I shut him in the basement for an hour. When I let him out, he was tired from all that running, jumping, and roaring so he slept.

Today we had snow flurries. SAME THING.

I was going to delay putting him back on Kittyprozac (forget the name of the med, it starts with an A and I can squirt it in his ear) because it flattened him out so much. I thought I should re introduce this when we are ready to move so that he has a better transition. But we will not move for several months. This cat reminds me of young children I have seen with Tourrettes before they are medicated. He is dangerously unpredictable at times. Do cats have Tourrettes?

I am heading back to the vet to get him put on the meds again. Any suggestions for anti anxiety meds for cats that don't totally alter their behavior and turn a healthy active playful big brute into a limp lump of fur? Any behavioral mod techniques?

I can't do pills with this cat. Giving him liquid meds by mouth was a mess when he had surgery for bladder stones. I talked about this here.

Once it stopped snowing he decided to sleep all day.

I will likely get new meds for him after Thanksgiving. We'll be packing more things and finishing up the painting and floors - and then showing the house. He needs to be more mellow for a few months.

Once we've moved I'll re evaluate the decision to medicate him. I have a feeling he's going to enjoy Florida.

Maybe they can give him a lower dosage. I know that humans can get meds in different milligrams. Ask about that. Lethargic kitty wouldn't be a happy kitty.

Vet is looking into it. We'll start this after Thanksgiving. He probably needs a lower dose than what he had.

He's been sleeping all day. Except for when I brought some things down from upstairs. He did the cat helper thing of running ahead of me. He's usually pretty good at not tripping people. Except he started behind me, and slammed into me on the staircase going full speed ahead. My hands were full and I nearly lost my balance.

This level of activity would not be a problem if he were not so big, and so unpredictable.

OMG!

I wish I had some kind of suggestion for you, but I don't. However, your story was immensely entertaining and cracked me up. And I thought I had crazy cats. Yours way tops their chaos!!!!

Good luck finding a gentle way to tame your wild kitty.
