My son will be 8 weeks in 2 days and I was wondering when is the right time to give him cereal? If I can give it to him, how much? how often? what kind? thanks ahead.

Is there a reason that you want to give him cereal so soon.
Most pedi's want you to wait till closer to 6 monhts, unless there is reflux.
I personally would wait till at least 4 months. If you introduce solids too soon they claim that it is linked with allergies. That is why they say to wait till between 4 and 6 months, and closer to 6 months.
Are you breastfeeding or formula feeding? Either way he is getting all the nutrition he needs that way, he doesn't need anything else.

He has reflux but is on medication for it. He still spits up quite a bit sometimes and the doc said it would help keep everything down. i was just wanting some other mothers opinions. He is on nutramigen right now.

The recommendations are that you hold off giving solid food till your baby is 6 months. Early weaning can lead to food allergies and digestive problems.

Here's some information I've found but googling brought up loads more

6 months, less chance for food allergies then. Their little bodies don't need anything til then, no matter how many people say "they'll sleep longer through the night." yea right!

Tiff had Reflux, but not really bad. She kept food down, I never medicated her. I just kept her upright after feedings and such.
If he is keeping his food down and just spitting up I would probably hold off. If he is vomitting most of his food back up and not gaining weight then I would ask the pedi how much.
My pedi wanted me to medicate Tiff, but by then the colic had subsided and she was just spitting up from time to time. I felt as though it wasn't necessary at that point. So we didn't do any solids till a week before 6 months.
Good luck to you!!!!

I started DS on cereal at two months simply because he had acid reflux. Had it not been for that...I probably would have waited until he was closer to four months.
