Default Cheap Stain Removal

According to http://www.tipking.com/tip/4002.html, rubbing alcohol.
This was asked in response to using shout (which can get rather expensive).

Anyone have any experience with this?

Rubbing alcohol worked for me (after nothing else did) when my kids created a wall of Sharpie artwork in their bedroom. However, besides removing the Sharpie, it also removed most of the paint!
What kind of stain are you trying to get rid of?

It's just a general question. I'm wondering if I could replace this solution in my shout bottle, figuring it would be a lot cheaper!

One of the BEST stain removers (cheap) I've ever used is dishwashing liquid! Great for anything oil based.

Shampoo for ring-around-the-collar.

There is an expensive stain remover that is truly remarkable: Tech. This can be found at ACE Hardware. It comes in a 3 ounce size for about $3.50 or a gallon size for $19.99. Can be used on carpeting and clothes. I'm never without a gallon in the house.

I've got a dog that drools all over the carpet. That's one stain I can barely get out. It will fade during the cleaning process but after a time it's always back!

I'm curious....just how do you use the hydrogen peroxide on the carpet? We spent A LOT for this carpet and it is beautiful so I'd like to save it.

BTW, the carpet is a very light blush color.

Thanks.

Hydrogen peroxide works really well for blood, and almost never bleaches anything. Also works really well on carpet. Also works for grass. My midwife use it to clean up the carpet after a homebirth if any blood got on the carpet, she said it has never bleached the carpet. I told her not to use it on my carpet, we would use OxyClean, because I was doubtful, but I've talked to many people since then that say it works great.

DH's cousin who cleans carpets for a living said that all that's in OxyClean that makes it work is sodium perborate, and he could buy about 50 gallons of it for the price of 1 tub of OxyClean. I'm not sure where to buy it, though! He said this is also in detergents with colorsafe bleach. Sure enough, I checked the ingredients and it is. I guess you could use some detergent with colorsafe bleach on the carpet to get out a lot of things, then.

In a large (empty) Spray'n Wash Bottle mix 1 loads worth of laundry soap (1/4 cup) and a 1/4 cup of amonia (I use less) then fill with water. The only thing I can't get out with this is mustard.

I came back from my week break from school only to find my apartment a mess. My roommates destroyed the kitchen floor and I have no idea what to use to get out all the stains. They also dropped some stuff on the carpet (I will try some of the stuff mentioned here on that), but I was curious if anyone knows of anything quick and easy on the kitcehn tile.

It's ceramic. I'll try the comet with bleach and see if that helps. Usually I wouldn't care b/c I didn't cause the mess in the place, but it's starting to become a real eye sore.
