These are awesome! I've been a fan for a couple years, and I'm secretly admiring the gear to set something like this up.
I don't think my dh would ever go for it...but it looks simple enough as far as wiring the electric and hooking it to my computer. I'd only need his help with placing the actual strings of lights.
Ahh...maybe some day.

Love these videos!
Really are fun to watch.
Think how much their electric bill must run!

I'm thinking with LED lights-not much. Sure they're more expensive up front, but they'd pay for themselves.
I've been researching and found a 16-channel startup kit for less than $500. I seriously think I could do this.
But my dh would think like you...electric bill. *sigh*

Sweet set-up. Lots of time was spent planning and setting this up.
In the town where I live one person buys air time on 88.1 FM and his lights are in sync with whatever his computer is set to play. So when you are sitting outside his house you can just tune your radio and voila! I think it's kind of awesome to do. I just wouldn't want to be out in the cold for the countless hours to get everything set just right.
If any of you ever get to South Williamsport, PA around the holiday season I would suggest a trip down Candy Cane Lane. Seriously, they renamed the 2 streets involved to this and all residents are required a light display between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day. It's quite a sight to take in. As I am not going to be back east this holiday, I encourage any of you who can get there to go visit on my behalf.
