Default Church weddings versus other venues

I have noticed an increasing trend for weddings to be held in parks, on beaches, or in venues other than churches. Even in my local paper, the number of church weddings is on the decrease. Where did you get married?

We got married in a church. I wanted to be married in a beautiful park garden, but my mom kept worrying me about rain and guests in their high heeled shoes on swampy grass. I got married in WA state in June so it's hit and miss on the rain. Our wedding was still very beautiful with lots of flowers though.

I've never been to a wedding that wasn't in a church. However, one of my best friend's is getting married in Hawaii. Unfortunately, none of her friends and most of her family won't be able to afford the trip!

We'll be getting married outdoors somewhere, haven't decided where yet though.

The caterer we used had use of a beautiful Victorian manor. We held our wedding ceremony in the garden. We did not have a traditional wedding, since we did not get married with the blessings of the Church and wrote our own ceremony.

That sounds gorgeous. Problem is, I probably would have wanted to move in after the ceremony.

We got married in a church building. I think part of the reason we did is because we were high school sweethearts and had both been members of that congregation in our hometown. I think it would have been neat to have a destination wedding (like in Hawaii or something) but that thought never even crossed my mind until after I was married.

My sister in law got married at a waterfall about an hour outside of town and just had close friends and families there. What was so cute, was that she and her husband have this very distinct personality about them, he is a musician and an artist, she is an artist, she doesn't wear makeup, they are into really simplifying things....you get the picture, well, she got her wedding dress from a second hand store for 99 cents and dressed it up a little with orange and yellow beads from a fabric store. They made their own invitiations with their aritistic abilities getting their pictures done from a photo booth at an arcade. Then they threw gerber daisies in the pond and they got married on the big rock in the middle of the pond, her in her 99 cent dress and gerber daisy headband, he in his blue jeans, both with their guitars strung across their backs. It was really a one of a kind wedding. I think of all of the money that most people spend on their wedding, and they (my sis in law) probably spent under $100, and it was by far the most memorable.

We were married in my IL house. The church I wanted to be married in, my church, was under construction. My SIL was on a boat. But other than that every other wedding I have been in or helped with has been at a church.

We got married at our church and my Dad (now a retired minister) performed the wedding ceremony.
