Default Classes

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, so please feel free to move this if you need to.

I would love to take classes on Photography. Not for anything really, just to learn more. Maybe one day after the kids start school I could do free lance stuff or something. Any way, where would I start looking to take classes? I don't want to "go" to college for a degree or anything, just a few classes to learn more. I've looked at the community college near me, but they don't offer a course. Where else could I check? TIA

I really dont have any ideas to help you but this is something I am interested in as well. I tried to take photography in high school but there was only limited availability and since I was a military brat my transfer happened in the summer when all the slots were full. I got myself a good camera for christmas and try to take as many pics as possible. I would talk to Rhi... she does it and since you live close maybe she will help you

I am a self-taught photographer with my own succesful business. By 'self-taught', I mean I have had no formal classes or degrees. Most of the best photogs out there are self-taught. You can google on-line and come up with a ton of on-line classes. But that can get pricey.

Here's another way,and better, believe me. Join as many on-line photography forums as you can. the information you will learn on these places is inmeasurable, and the best part is it is all free. You can receive constructive critism of your own work as well, and learn how to grow as an artist, defining your style. Business discussions, technical advice (lighting, composition, etc.), creative ideas. equipment info... all that is EASILY learned in forums. many forums have 'mini workshops' that you can participate in. Many have seasoned photogs that are members who offer more extensive on-line programs. There is a whole community of photographers online and most (but not all!!) are quite helpful. My favorite one is ilovephotography.com (ILP for short). Just about all photogs know of ILP. But, I'll warn you - it can be very overwhelming at first, and very addicting!!

On a personal note, if there is anything I can help you with, or you have specific questions when it comes to photography, I'd be more than willing to help in any way that I can.

The university in our city offers recreational classes (yoga, sewing, photography, dancing, etc) They offer quite a few photography classes. Check out community centers in your area, or local camera shops or art stores to see if they offer classes. HTHs!
