Default Clueless about lingerie

Yesterday I got a Frederick's of Hollywood catalog in the mail which got me to thinking about lingerie. Specifically the last time I wore it.

It's been so long ago I don't even remember.

I don't make time to incorporate such gimmicks into my marriage. (Mainly because I'm lazy and cheap. I admire lingerie but I can't bring myself to pay the prices.)

What about you? Was lingerie ever a factor in the intimate side of your relationship? Do you still wear it? Do you have any tips for those of us who are clueless about how to gracefully and effortlessly incorporate it into our wardrobes and bedrooms?

For instance, do you plan ahead that you'll wear something sexy on a certain day? Do you let your S.O. know, or surprise them?

Maybe that's my other trouble...I'm clueless about how to effectively use lingerie!!!

i'm a little biased-- i've worked for victoria' secret for years. i still wear it, almost always have with DH. he always gets something new for a holiday/special occasion (cmas, birthdays, halloween, etc). sometimes he'll get a surprise, but not very often. there's no way to "use" lingerie, just put it on! haha. if you're new at it, i wouldn't say go straight for the see through things. probably start with a little silk slip. (at VS they're typically around $30, but almost always 40% off). they're typically pretty conservative. they typically don't show much cleavage and i believe they reach somewhere between mid-thigh and just above the knee. See? Ypu helped me already! Maybe I'm thinking of it wrong. It's not something to be "used" perhaps. Gotta change my mindset.

I can't tell you how much I appreciate you taking the time to reply. I might just become a lingerie convert by trying a different direction. Never thought of trying out the slips. I wear a lot of dresses and skirts sometimes so that would maybe be a good starting point...

THANKS!

Which reminds me of a very interesting story.

We were having some electrical work done on our home. The electrician was a really nice family man. I was on bedrest with a pg issue.

He wanted to know how to get into the attic. It was a ranch style home. I told him to go into the 2nd bedroom to get to the attic.

Seemed pretty simple to me. Men know how to get into attics.

I was in the livingroom. Suddenly, I am hearing all kinds of hangers being moved and repositioned. Thought to myself, how very odd. What in the world was the electrician doing in my closet?

So, I walk into the 2nd bedroom and the electrician is holding a bunch of my clothing on hangers, moving them onto the bed. In his right hand are a bunch of my silky black nightgowns, in his other hand are my black sexy nightgowns. He looks rather sheepish.

I asked him, "What are you doing?"

Still holding my nighties, he replies, "I'm trying to get into the attic. Gotta go through the closet, at the top there is that little square hole that I need to climb up into to get to the attic."

I started laughing, and pointed to another area of the ceiling."There is a fold down ladder, if you pull it down over there," I informed him.

We both started laughing and he returned my black nighties to the closet.

This is too much, QueenAngie! Were you as composed in real life as you related in your message? I would have flipped out from embrassment!!!! This is a GREAT story. Thanks for sharing!

I got one of teh cute little slip type of nighties, and I love it. Its getting a bit tight, but DH loves that fact just as much. Its just a soft silky cotton, pink and black with a little lacy slit over one leg.

hahahaha ok well I would only wear some cute little (very little) items until DH pretty much said they are pointless to him...fine by me, saves some money!

well, this year for xmas (now remember we are 23 and 22, and have 2 kids already) my MIL bought me really cute lingerie. I was pretty much in shock because this was the woman who didnt even want us sleeping in the same room before DD was born!
Well one night I thought Id surprise DH. since I havent done much in "that area" since I was preg with DD2...actually nothing at all on my end...

So I put the lingerie on UNDER my regular PJ's (which consist on a long baggy tshirt and a pair of his boxer shorts) He didnt know anything was going on Made for a nice surprise and a good night

I have about 7 or so, DH generally goes with me when I shop there, and we pick out panties together too. I only go to VS. I wear mostly the slip like teddies, with matching thongs. I have to remind myself to go put one on, they don't stay on long, but he likes taking them off. The panties, they're all from VS too, and he picks most of them. Mom sends me gift cards for my birthday and for Christmas, and DH likes that a lot. I also have a couple of cute nighties from there, and a really cute robe that I just got at Christmas. He likes those too, but prefers the more see through/lacy stuff.
I'd say wear what you're comfortable with wearing. I am not comfortable with some of the stuff I consider 'cheap''trashy' looking, so don't buy that. And, some styles just aren't flattering for me, so I avoid those too. But, when I do remember to put it on, he's definitely very appreciative.
I took one with us when we went downtown and stayed overnight for new years eve, just hid it in the bathroom in our room before we went out, and put it on when we came back to our room. He liked that a lot.

Sometime I wear it, sometimes not. I get mine at Cacique.
I once made the mistake of getting all dolled up in a new outfit then joking to my partner that he would NEVER be able to figure out how to get the clasp unhooked (it was in the front, and tricky). Well, he's an engineer, and he popped that thing off in .2 seconds....
I'll never challenge him on THAT front again....I don't think he can even tell me what it looked like, he just went for the challenge!

I am a 44 year old man with 4 kids and 2 grandkids, married to my soulmate. We have lingerie and most of it I have bought for my her. I love to see her in it, but not only for the obvious reasons, when she wears it her attitude changes. She will go from "Mom" and "Grandma" to that girl I fell in love with in high school. Funnier still, sometimes she will lounge in one of my blue work shirts with my name on it... That will do it just as well. Many times it is not about the clothing but the attitude that goes with it.
