Default cold remedies??

I am exclusively nursing my 11 week old and have a nasty cold (sore throat, nasal congestion, fever). My pharmacist said not to take any meds because they can dry up my milk, but there has got to be something I can take!! I am completely miserable, and am willing to try anything!

Yes, a lot of cold medication can affect your supply, but I do believe there are some you can take. I'm not sure which ones are the best to take. Some of the other ladies on here are more helpful or maybe you can contact your local la leche league.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am very worried about my supply dropping - afraid I wouldn't know if it decreased. Jack is still "on-demand" and that could be 3 times in an hour (yes, I am a human pacifer at times! ), or it could be every 3-4 hours. So, I don't really know what I have for a supply - except that he never appears to be going hungry.

The pharmacist said to drink OJ too - but I am diabetic, so that would create a problem.
I feel bad, because my coughing keeps Jack awake (I co-sleep)... I just hope he doesn't get what I've got!

He's not going to get what you get. He has your antibodies for it. Secondly, are you 100% positive you don't need antibiotics? Please check because it's much better to take the right meds the first time then pump yourself up with ones that are only going to treat symptoms.

ETA: Sorry. . .NOT pseudoephedrine but the other one phenylephrine. . .you can take both actually. Most moms with a well established milk supply will not experience a decrease in supply with pseudoephedrine (so sayeth the breastfeeding gurus) but either is considered safe while bfing. Take something and go to sleep.

Salt water nose drops for you.
Can make your own....or purchase at the store.

Blow-dryer up your nose. Don't burn yourself.

Keep pushing the fluids.

Maybe you ought to check w/ your doctor in case you have
bronchitis or a sinus infection that needs an antibiotic.
