Unhappy Colds :(

Mikael has ANOTHER cold (looks like he got his mama's crap for an immune system)...
He is absolutely miserable. Terrible cough, gunky nose, watery eyes.. he is just miserable.
I don't know how to help him aside from saline drops. He is 8 months old and I know you cant give babies cold medicine... but is there anything I can do? I have the same cold and man I am absolutely miserable I can't imagine how he feels!
I just wanna make his ickiness go away
Any suggestions?

Are you sure it isn't allergies? Those all sound like signs and right now in NJ allergies are horrible!! Unless he is running a fever that is. Try a humidifier too in his room and also if you can up the head part of his mattress and vapor tubbies are good too. If it is allergies you can give benadryl or my little guy is on zyrtec since about 6mnths of age. Good luck!

Yes, you can give babies cold medicine. You just have to be sure you're not over-dosing them. Have your pediatrician tell you what and how much. Make sure it's based on weight.
Otherwise, saline drops work the best! Maybe have him sleep somewhat upright in his carseat. Just put it right inside his crib.
Poor baby.

Put him in the bathroom with a hot shower running and let the room get all steamy. That always helped open my kids little noses up. I second the humidifier too.

GL, hope your lil man feels better soon.

The current recomendation is not to give infants cold medicines. They have been deemed "ineffective and potentially harmful" in children under the age of 2. So you shouldn't be able to find anything real effective OTC. (Although at our drug store, they still sell some types of cold medecines.) But you can use baby vapor rub, and ayr, a humidifier and have him sleep propped up. I would second the check into the allergies though. I would also give your pedi a call. . .she/he might be willing to prescribe you something.

Thanks for the advice ladies...
It isn't allergies, because I have the cold too and he had a fever. The fever has broken (thank God, I thought I was gonna have to take him to the ER) but his cough is absolutely terrible. It's all mucousy and stuff. I've actually had to give him his inhaler that he had prescribed for him when he had RSV. I have asthma so I am worried that he will develop it now too in which case every little, minor cold turns into a huge ordeal. Poor guy was up ALL night last night just crying and crying and I couldn't make him feel better...

well i took Mikael to the doc.
He and I both have really bad sinus infections.
If he is in as much pain as I am, i can see why he wouldnt stop crying.
We are both on antibiotics. Its a huge relief to know that the end is in sight!
