Default College age independence

Is anyone else experiencing the "OMG, gotta catch my breath" thing about how quickly teens grow up when they go to college?

I didn;t have this with my oldest, because he was unhappy the first year and spent a lot of time at home. Once he transferred, and was really settled, he developed his own adult life - well, almost adult, but definitely moving there. Now with my youngest, folks are commenting that even in six months, he has grown so much more mature.

It really takes my breath away. I think, gee, he is only 18. So grown up.

And yet, when he tells me of some of the troubles of his friends, some of the mistakes, and the fact that no matter where he goes SOMEONE wants to sell him drugs (they don't figure he is going into law enforcement) I think, gee, he is only 18.

Anyone else experiencing those mixed feelings?

Wasn't he just in grade school? Where did those years fly by?

Yes, there are a lot of temptations for our teens every day.
Drugs, sex, alcohol, smoking, daredevil driving, cheating on tests....it's out there.

You did a great job raising him - knowing right from wrong, making the best choices, having good morals. Pat yourself on the back, Mcmama!

That's the easy part. I know at the time, it was not easy.

This next part is even harder - giving them wings to fly.

Congrats on being a great Mom!

still being a teenager I can say that I feel the same way as you...I feel like I should still be in high school, I can't seriously be old enough to have a full time job and be able to do all the things I do... and yet I've had this job for over a year and at the end of this year I've been out of school for 2! It's crazy!

Louise, I cannot believe you are a teenager. You always post with a wisdom beyond your years. It's called maturity, I guess!

I think moving out and having an apartment really helps someone grow up. I also noticed a lot of guys that had problems dating were also the ones still living at home. I think girls can tell if a guy is mature enough to date seriously and living at home is part of that.

I just can't understand guys that want to live with mommy until they are 30.
