Default Copper IUD

Have any of you tried the copper IUD and kept it in place until it expired? I am about to have mine replace (after 10 years) and the last few years I have been battling a pretty wicked case of melasma, and I just read that melasma can be cause by copper IUD's. I have never been pregnant and it doesn't run in my family... Anyway, just wondered if anyone out there also had the same experience. I am 99% sure I am going to get the Marena, but I am not happy about the hormones.

ZERO responses to my thread,,,,,, there are like, 500 million threads on the internet about this, this forum must solely be for baby producers. If so, that's cool, but the term "Family" leads me to other throughts aside from popping out babies. Maybe this forum should be RELABELED, baby production forum...............
Because you know what??? Family means, caring for terminally ill, obese people, aging parents, birthcontrol, abuse issues, eating disorders, ramdom stuff, etc...
But the people that frequent this forum ,,,,,,,,,,,,,, produce babies! that's it. And thats all you know!
So you know what? REPRODUCE! THAT'S ALL YOU KNOW!

while i certainly do not find your post appropriate, i'll reply anyway.

no i haven't had the copper IUD, and i don't know of anyone who has. a do know a couple of people who have the mirena & love it.

yes i have a (wonderful, beautiful, fantastic) child, but i know MUCH more than reproducing. however, i do not need to defend myself to you. nor do any of the other men & women who deal with terminally ill family members, obesity, aging parents, preventing reproduction, abuse, disorders and the list goes on. there are MANY more places you can go for advice & research. unfortunately, it seems that nobody has any experience in what you are asking. the internet is limitless, though i recommend you speak with your doctor on the link between melasma & copper iuds. Or even, speak with a new doctor. throwing a fit because nobody answered your question is not a mature way of asking for help.

I originally didn't respond because I have never used that form of birth control. I used Deprovera...wasn't fun don't reccomend it. Many women have had good experiances with it but I wasn't one of them. I think the reason no one responded is because no one had an answer for you...I don't think throwing around insults will give you the answers you're looking for. Like pp has said, why don't you talk to your doctor or continue to search the internet. If you do have any other questions I am sure one of the lovely ladies here could help EVEN when it has nothing to do with babies! Please be respectful.

I have never had a copper iud either. I suppose I could go off and research it on the interent, then come back with an answer for you, but that's something you are perfectly capable of doing yourself.

It does appear that you are frustrated, but you do not have to be rude.

Actually, I was done reproducing 19 years ago.
DS#2 turned 19 yesterday.

So, on purpose, I have not be pg since that time.
Somebody at my house has been on birth control then.

That BC was not an IUD. I have not had a personal experience with a copper IUD. The friends that I do know that have had IUDs have not been happy with them, and they were very short-used as BC.

I do not have any research or personal experience w/ your questions.

Perhaps, a different forum could answer your question in better detail, as you stated above.

How rude. We did not rush to do research on a particular form of birth control fast enough for you. And with each little bundle of joy bursting from the pez dispenser between our legs, our brains just atrophy. But hey, that's ok, that's all we do is just spawn, spawn, spawn. Just too busy popping out those babies one two three.

And raising them.

And schooling them. And supporting them. And cleaning up after them. And teaching them to clean up their own mess.

And taking care of aging parents. And burying our dead.

And some of us are getting too old to spawn.

And getting married. And getting divorced. And buying and selling houses. And surviving health issues. Work life balance. Saving money, finding a good deal on something we need. Pondering the great spiritual questions. Chit chatting. Getting to actually know people around the globe.

Look, I'm a 53 year old cancer survivor who divorced a closet queen and had a mother in law like the one you describe on another thread. I live in NJ but I am not from here and I will never get used to the rudeness that is a necessary part of life here. This forum is a welcome respite from that. Some forums are really built around information, some around point counterpoint, some for rough and tumble discussion. This is a friendly board, but folks tend not to answer a question they don't have much experience with.

I'd like you to stick around if you choose to, because I think you need a friend or two. I also think you need a ((hug)).

I'm interested to know why your doctor inserted a IUD when you've never had a baby? In the UK they won't do that and the stem of a Mirena is much thicker and harder to insert It was was painful for even me and I have had 5 children so much cervix is never completely closed.

I have a normal copper T IUD now but have only had it in about 16 months so I can't really answer your question.

If you don't want to reproduce get your tubes tides or the insides removed.
