Default Credit Card Company

I'd love to know what banks everyone uses for their credit card. I'll only use a bank that offers some type of rewards.

I'm looking into changing due to a really bad experience with Citi Bank. I've been with them for 12 years now.

On Tuesday I called them. We had requested an additional card. We got it and it had the sticker that said we needed to call. We called. They asked the typical questions. I got all of the questions right. This means:

1. I requested the card
2. they mailed the card to MY address
3. I picked up MY mail
4. I called them
5. I knew my name, my mailing address, my moms maiden name and the last 4 digits of my social.

They still weren't convinved, so they asked me what bank I pay my bills with. I use two account. I gave them both. Oops, they said I got it wrong. I now had to be transferred to another department. All I wanted to do was say "hey I got the card, thanks". I'm now almost 10 minutes into this call and not happy. They transferred me to someone who STARTED OVER with the "what's your name?", "whats the last 4...?" At this point I'm mad. I only wanted to verify I got the card I asked for and they mailed to me.

We're still stuck on the how i pay my bill, and going nowhere. The girl closed my account.

I auto pay with that account. I couldn't have it closed. I called back. I'm now close to 20 minutes into what should've been a 30 second call. I said "I need my account reopened". I'm told I need to resubmit a credit application and it takes 10-12 days. AT this point, I'm not happy at all. I've been a customer for 12 years and they need a new credit application? I asked for a supervisor. He finally helped me, and claimed he was reopening the account. WRONG. I went to use it and it was declined. I had to call again. Finally, someone helped me.

Oh, and the whole bank thing...one of the account I pay with is an account that uses a 3rd party bank, whose name is a secret. So it was a question I could never and will never get right as I still don't know the name of this 3rd party bank.

So, it's time for me to change companies. Recommendations anyone?

Oh geez I would have been totally livid with them!

No reccomendations, because I HATE banks with a passion. I've had too many problems. Besides, I tend to live paycheck to paycheck anyways. What little I manage to save in my lockbox, gets spent sooner or later on something that has been deemed an "emergency." (Like 'hey, I don't feel like cooking lets go out..' haha)

My mom has been with Bank of America for quite some time though, and hasn't had many problems. Maybe you could give them a call. Good luck anyways.

I was pretty livid . The truth is I don't mind the precautions they take to protect me. However to ask a trick question and then close my account because I only knew the other 10 answers....I was just, well, livid .

I do have a Bank of America account. I may call them and see if they offer a rewards card. Thanks.

Grrr, I'd be ticked too!

I use Capital One. It does have a rewards program but you have to spend quite a bit to get anything. I like the card because its' a 5.9% fixed rate. I'm not sure if they still do that rate currently, but they do seem to have good fixed rates overall. I can't speak for their customer service. I don't get any special treatment; I'm truly just a number to them but I think many CC companies are this way.

They closed your account...because you couldn't answer a trick question...and all you wanted to do was activate the new card. Holy crap. I would keep calling them until they re-open the accont. Try this: "That's not good enough." and then wait for them to respond. Keep asking for their supervisor, and keep going up the chain. Good luck.
As for a recommendation, we like Discover card and Chase. They're both rewards cards (Discover doesn't have a limit, but Chase does). Hope you find one that you like!
