Default Cross country travel

I got tired of none of my family getting to see Caleb, so last night I booked two tickets for Caleb and I to fly from Virginia to Seattle to visit everyone. I'm super excited to go - I get to meet my 9 mo old nephew for the first time plus see everyone else. Now I'm trying to figure out how to actually do it! I got a ticket for him so I can put him in his carseat (it would be an absolute nightmare if he was on my lap). How do I get through the airport (we also have to change planes in St. Louis) by myself with Caleb, his car seat, and a carry on bag? Last time I did this he was little and I just wore him in a sling the whole time, which was pretty easy. I think I'm more worried about the airport parts than the actual flight! I'm really hoping he'll sleep for a goot part of the flight, and hopefully lots of snacks will keep him happy. Thanks for any ideas!

I think there is a special strap/harness you can buy for the plane, that way you don't need to lug around the car seat. Airports also have those cart thingers, so you could pile everything on one of those... Good luck to you! I am in a panic as well because me and the kids are going to see my mom in Texas ((we live in PA)) and DH can't go because he can't miss work or school... I am dreading the airport AND the plane ride... all 3 of them and myself... pray that I make it! How long is your lay over? Maybe if it's not so hectic, you will have time to get a cart, walk around stretch your legs? That might make it a little less stressful! Good luck!

I haven't flown with my my kids, but have to commend you for buying a seat for your little man. I was a flight attendant for 5 years in my pre-mom days and it is infinitely better for him to have a seat. It really is the same as driving in a car without a car seat. None of us would dream of sitting in a car for 5 hours with our toddler on our lap and an airplane is the same. I've seen horrible videos and situations.

My kids are 2.5 and 3 months. My family moved here to AZ just before I got married and DH's parents are here in AZ (about 3 hrs away) so the opportunity hasn't presented itself to fly with them, so I don't have any advice of what's worked for me---just what I observed a few years back.

I saw someone with one of these with my hubby and I flew to Myrtle Beach in April. They're SO COOL! If you don't end up with that, An umbrella stroller should be the easiest to transport. Maybe you could get something smaller and more "booster seatish"? I don't know how tall he is, so that might not work if he's shorter...
