Default Crying when having a BM

Ladies, I need help with this one.

Every crazy thing seems to happen to Amber the day she gets her shots. So, sure enough, on Wednesday, Amber had her shots. This time, after it happened, she started crying every time she tried to push when going poop. I have no idea why! Yesterday, she had a variety of "types" of stool -- some very solid, others soft, and she cried each time. I checked for blood streaks and didn't find any.

Again, today, she cried a lot with this last one. (She's asleep now.) It took an hour for her to get it out, and when she did it was quite solid and formed. Does anyone have any ideas what might be the issue?

I'm not convinced that the shots had anything to do with it, I just mention it because after her first shots she got a cold the next day, she got a 24 flu bug after the second shots, and now this. (Likely coincidence, but I thought I'd mention it.)

If it sounds like it's headed toward constipation, can someone suggest something that might help?

BTW, she has rice cereal for each meal, and at lunch and dinner I give her a 2nd stage food (peas and carrots, or mixed veggies; I offered broccoli and cheese on Tuesday, which I thought was what did it on Wednesday).

Thanks for your help!

I always had to give my kids suppositories if it got to the point where they were crying when it came time to go. Not that I used them excessively because you can't, but since she is 7 months you could give her juice and see if that helps, and also I have done this with both my kids, if she's still on formula with iron in it use a tablespoon of Karo syrup (the dark one) in her bottles (don't use it with every feeding because it is all sugar), it helped to prevent my kids from being stopped up. (My doc's always recommended this approach too)

Thanks, ladies. I was surprised to discover we had some of the Heinz strained prunes in the cupboard, so I gave some to Amber for lunch. I hope that after her naps, when she tries again, she'll have a better time of it.

I discovered that I might have been over-doing the rice cereal. My mother told me on the phone that rice may be adding to the problem, seeing as I have been giving it three times a day. I'm going to abandon it for a while, and go get a box of either wheat or oatmeal this afternoon.

Just a quick update on Amber -- she had a soft poop after she woke up just now, and she didn't cry while grunting.

Thanks for your help with the prune juice advice!

What shots were given? Is she better? If not and she was given rotovirus, call your doctor immediately. There have been issues with that vax. If she had a BM and is happy, she is most likely fine.

My baby had constipation problems with rice cereal and the doctor told us to go right to baby oatmeal. That, along with daily 4 oz. bottles of diluted apple juice does the trick! Sometimes, I have to give her prune baby food, or gerber makes an apple prune juice that works GREAT!!!! If her poop is hard and formed, she's definitely constipated. If that keeps up and is painful for her, then that may make it hard for you when it comes time for potty training her. A lot of kids who had problems with BM's won't potty train until much later, unless the problem is solved early and they see that it's not always painful.
