Default CVS Cards

Asked the clerk for a CVS card for my son and she said I couldn't have a card until we filled out the paperwork and returned it to her. Is this standard procedure now? So today I found an old card in my desk and tried to access the online program by just putting in the card # without zip or name and it won't let me do it anyway I try it. My son needs his own card and was going to use this one .. I suppose he can just use it without registering it?

You just fill out the paperwork right at the store and give it to the clerk. It's just a short form with name, address, etc. Took me less than 5 minutes to get the card.

Right....I saw the form and have filled one out for myself in the past. But, why couldn't I just get a card without doing that...What about those people who don't want their shopping habits tracked? I have friends that use my phone number when they shop at stores that require a loyalty card to get sale prices because they refuse to register any of their information.

umm, the CVS card IS a way for them to track your spending, so I don't think there's a way to get a card without filling out your info. These store club cards are not for people who don't want their spending habits tracked...unless you make up info for an imaginary person or something.

You can fill out the paperwork with fake information such as a fake name, address and phone number. I do it all the time.

I haven't tried it - but I have heard that if you order a card only, even though you enter your information, that it doesn't actually get 'assigned' to the card

This is what I experienced with a card I ordered online...I filled out all the info for my husband, and when I got the card it had his name on the envelope...but then I couldn't access his account online (but the card was still usable, it just doesn't show a name on your ECBs when they print out) so I called CS and had to give them all my husband's info (AGAIN) in order to access it online (which you don't need to do much now if you don't have any old ECBs waiting to print!)

If you can get a cashier to just give you a card (or if the store has the sign up station), you can use a card and get all the benefits without ever attaching any information to it. (Although you won't get any mail or email coupons)

Well I am glad I can answer this question with correct information. I am currently an employee at CVS in the role of shif supervisor so my information is valid. One reason we ask for information is to track purchases, CVS will often give coupons based on these purchases. Another reason is actually for security purposes, if you loose your keys or wallet they can be returned to any CVS supervisor or manager and they will pull up your information and contact you directly. Lose of keys with a card is actually very often believe it or not. That is why it is important that we have valid contact information. As you know, your CVS card gives you access to all of the sale prices and extra bucks as well. You earn 2% "cash" back every quarter. For example, I just received $15.50 in extra bucks for my spring purchases. Many people often give false information on the application, however it is not encouraged due to safety reasons. If you would like to have a duplicate card sent to you for your son to use you can call 1-800-SHOP-CVS and ask for an additional card. However, any extra bucks you are entitled to may print on his receipt. I encourage you to fill out the form with his information. Also, if you all live in one apartment there is a limit of extra buck per household, I would say to put down APT 1 or something along those lines (insider tip for you). Another added bonus is that if you by chance do not have your CVS card when making a purchase you can give the phone # on file to make sure you not only get the sale price but to get the credit for the 2% of the purchase. If you have any further questions please feel free to post them and I will be happy to answer them for you. ALSO, JUST AN EXTRA FYI FOR EVERYONE. EVEN THOUGH YOUR EXTRA BUCKS HAVE AN EXPIRATION DATE, WE WILL STILL ACCEPT THEM UP TO 4 MONTHS AFTER THEY EXPIRE AS LONG AS WE CAN READ THE AMOUNT! This does not apply to specific offers such as the one the print with 3 DAYS ONLY on them.
