Default Dating a Widower

Can anyone give advice on dating a widower that has multiple mood swings and three sons that act like they are glad their dad is moving on and the next minute you find out the youngest is very upset. Now his wife (of 31 years of marriage) passed away going on three years ago he is 54 I am 39 his boys range from 24-31. The 24 year old is home from college. We have been dating for 6 months everything has been wonderful. Now he tells me he kids are having issues and he gets very emotional in the last few weeks and starts drinking heavily. What should I think of this?

Welcome to the board!

He has been a widower for 3 years and you have dated for 6 months together. These last few weeks have not gone well for your relationship.

If you think he is the one match made in heaven for you, I would suggest counseling to get to the root of the issues.

Drinking heavily sounds like another concern. Is he an alcoholic?

Wishing you the best!

Thanks for listening. I know the drinking has been an issue ever since his wife died and he admits that he would never had drank like he has because she would have killed him. He has slowly been trying to correct that. We have been with each other every day for six months. Should I give him some space to work out some issues that he may still have? I am the only he has had a relationship with other than his wife. Should I try talking to his son?
