Dating Ages for Preteen/Teens
What is a good age for a teenager/preteen
to go on group dates?
What is a good age for a teenager
to go on initial couple date without supervision?
Please share your thoughts and memories.

I never had a certain age that i could date. I think when i got my drivers license is when i started going on real dates unsupervised. Dh's mom dropped us off at the theater a few times before we could drive, but before that it was just going to dances and hanging out at school.
I think 13 or 14 is old enough to go on supervised group dates and 16 is old enough for real dates.

Both of my girls have always done the group thing. With the exception of a couple of years during elementary school, my girls have aleays had boys as friends so boys were always part of the group.
My older daughter dated one on one during high school. My younger daughter (now a senior in high school) hasn't had a boyfriend for a while. She has male friends so she's gone out a few times one on one with boys, but they weren't dates.

imo, it depends on the prospective partner. Theoretically, I'd let beatofmyheart go on a group date now (she'll be 15 in April) if the right boy came along and her good friends had a free night to go with her.

I say it depends on the child- some twelve year olds still need babysitters, while others are babysitting themselves.
For Norah, I would say that at 12-13 I would let her go on a group date (which I kind of find a funny term, since I don't think that boys/girls hanging out together automatically make it a date). For one on one dating, if she can prove to me that she is mature enough, and I know exactly where they are going (either I'm dropping them off or his parents are dropping them off) add I can contact her at all times via cellphone, I would let her at age 14. As long as I get to meet the guy beforehand.

I think thirteen or fourteen is OK for 'I want to go to the cinema with a boy of my age' - if they had a much older 'boyfriend', or wanted to go out really late or somewhere futher away than they would normally go with their same sex friends then I may be more dubious. It all depends on the teen, their boy/girlfriend, and where they want to go.

In my home, it was 16. Group/adult present dates. 17/18 graduated highschool one on one dates. And I always had fun and didn't have to worry about the pressure of keeping up the conversation all by myself, friends keep the fun going.

The only rule we will have is that you don't spend the night together until you are 16, but we aren't stupid we realise what ever we do anyway it is not going to stop our children dating or having sex.
