Lightbulb Days too short to walk

As the days are getting shorter, and with Day Light Savings time coming to an end, I've realized that my late day walk/jog has been coming to an end, mostly because by the time my fiance and I get home it's dark and we don't want to want to walk around in the dark/cold in our neighborhood. And even with walking together, there's always the safety issue at night. This has really slowed down our workout goals of him losing weight and me lowering my cholesterol.

I found a pretty good deal at gold's gym in the MD area near me with aerobics class, body pumps, yoga, cheap child care (although we don't need that too much), and a women only workout room.

So perhaps I shall make a compromise with my frugal ways and look into this.

Winnie, we took out the links. Cannot tell if you are posting just for link placement for Golds, or if this is a real conversation.

I go with a group and we have cut our meeting time back to 6 pm from 6:30 - once we are back on regular standard time, we'll have a bit more light in the evening. We carry blinkers and wear reflective clothing, choosing a path that is not vulnerable to car traffic. Bikers are not there in the dark, either.

As for safety, we wait for one another at the end, and if someone has not been seen, someone else always drives back along the path to check and see if they are in distress. And we carry phones too.

Default Walking

It is so great that you have been exercising, however many people are in your same situation. I compliment you on joining the gym (a great choice)! (link cut by mod) Again good luck and keep up the good work.

This has happened a few places on this thread, so lets talk about links for a minute.

Members may place a link to their blog or their website in their signature. Members may NOT make posts encouraging people to come and visit their website. It is ok to link to other sites as long as you're not trying to sell something with them - but if we determine a pattern of the type of spam that is just for "buzz" we remove it.

Most people who are fitness minded like to try out new things, so when we have great discussions, and we see something interesting in someone's sig, we follow it up!

Thanks for all the positive encouragement, everyone. Exercising in the dark is indeed a challenge, but it can be done safely, or other activities can be substituted.

I sometimes take a nice walk after dinner as the sun is going down. No need to visit a gym to get exercise if you take the initiative. Almost all the stores are open after sunset, so I try to combine a walk with a destination chore to get exercise.

I simply have never understood having to pay to exercise, or driving a car to a gym to exercise. I'm sure many people beg to differ though.
