Default DD hates swimming

So I just spent alot of money and effort for nothing.

I bought Alyssa a pool, swimming suit, little swimmers, pool shoes, various pool toys and floats, a hose. Got myself a suit too.

Got up early yesterday so I could fill the pool and let it sit in the sun a few hours to warm up. It didn't warm as well as I hoped so about 11am I was hauling bucket after bucket of hot water out to the pool.

At noon I get Alyssa and me in our swimming suits. Get the towels ready. Sippy cup. Snack. Lawn chairs. I'm all ready for a pool party because by this point I'm dripping in sweat and the pool looks good.

Me and Alyssa get in the pool and she screams bloody murder! Last summer she loved the pool, and this year I could swear it was trying to eat her! Its funny though. I put her in the pool and she screams, then fine when she's not in it. Yikes!

Hopefully some other day she'll like it more. *sigh*

Ahhhh Jean, that stinks. Maybe if you try again she will do better.

I'm hoping Emma likes the pool, we just bought a house that has a big one. It is going to be REALLY HOT here the next few days and the water temp is 76*. I'm thinking we will give it a go tomorrow.

Amber tried that last year. But now she's better. We have the pool out there, and she runs around it a lot and gets her hands wet first, then she'll ask us to put her in. It just takes some time, and of course, it has to feel like bath water. (Otherwise she's not at all interested.) Luckily for us, it's been feeling like 40 degrees Celsius the last few days, so the water has been like bathwater for her.

my girls are fishes, but a little boy i babysat for for did the same thing--hated being in the pool! He would have rather just walked around it all day sweating. But we tried everyday and eventually you couldnt get him out! Keep up with it, she will get used to it

My DD hated it too for the first few years, now she is asking us to take her to the beach (everyday!) and she wants to learn how to swim with her nose unplugged. She is practicing in the bathtub for now. (scary!) But it is so funny.

Give her a few more tries! She may change her mind, Jean.

My little guy needs to sit back and watch first. After awhile, he wants in. Can she play near it, with you watching first? Maybe she will work up to it.

Good Luck!!!

Thanks for the advice! I will definately keep trying as we have had sunny warm weather lately. We've tried twice since I posted this, with the same results, but I'm hoping she'll eventually change her mind!

But today I took her to my grandparents house and she had fun in the sprinkler for a bit, so maybe that's the way to go for this summer.
