Default dealing with a negative adult stepdaughter

I am having a difficult time dealing with our adult stepdaughter 30+. Whenever she comes over she talks bad about most people including her mother whom she lives with along with her 3 kids. I try to leave the room so I don't have to hear it. It doesn't seem to bother her dad, he doesn't say much. It is getting harder and harder to be around her. When she arrives I say a low profile hi and a low profile bye when she leaves. my response is starting to bother her dad..in fact he told me I am rude. Any suggestions or ideas??????

Have you discussed your feelings with your husband? It's really up to him to put the kibosh on her behavior.
However, if you let him know that you will not participate in listening then maybe he will tell her to knock it off. I don't think you are being rude at all but if he doesn't know why you are choosing to leave then it probably does appear rude to him. Good luck.

I have seen many stories on here, where stepdaughter said something rude, and wound up getting an either verbal or physical smackdown from the stepmom.

Congrats on handling this like an adult! Ignoring her is absolutely the best (and possibly only) thing you can do in this situation. As the previous poster stated...it is her father's job to take control.

Just a thought, does your husband not like his ex? That may be why she talks bad about her...because she feels it impresses her dad. I wouldn't be surprised, however, to learn that she bad talks her dad when she's around mom.

Good luck, and I hope you continue to ignore the bad behavior. It sets a good, grownup, example. Thank you!
