Deceitful Business Practices at my K-Mart
There is only one K-Mart around here, and their business practices are driving me crazy. I want to report them to somebody, because I really think what they are doing is deceitful and most likely illegal. Two big things are really irritating me:
Children's Toy Sale, 50% off Select Toys Today Only
These signs were up for a month in front of the store, the tags on the select toys are permanent, not going to be removed tomarrow, and there is no special discount, it is merely their regular clearance toys that they always have. I had a fit the night I went to buy one of the toys for 50% off, it wasn't 50% off, and they would not take any additional off, they merely said it is referring to the lowest priced tag on the toy. they removed the signs at my request, the manager apologized and said he could understand how someone might be mislead by the signs. Fine, issue resolved. Until I went in last night and the signs were back up!!!! I hit the roof, and got another manager. I read him the riot act and told him he needed to remove the signs. He refused. I told him to call the customer service manager (Frank) who removed the sign last time. He refused. I went back today, all signs and indications had been removed, and all of the toys were moved back to the clearance section. Obviously what I said had some effect.
70% off fine jewelry
This sale has been going on now for at least two years. I told the manager last night that it is not a sale, it is their regular price. He told me the price occasssionally changes to 60% off, so that makes it a sale. I could not believe what I was hearing.
I would like to know what I can do, besides raising the issue with the managers every time I go into the store. I think they will change if they think someone is watching them, they obviously know and have even admitted to me that what they are doing is wrong, so why are they still doing it, and what else can I do about it??? It angers me that they refused to remove the signs last night, then today they are all gone, and the enire display is gone, I would have looked like an idiot if I had reported it, and I can bet they would have denied the whole thing.
The reason I want it changed, is that I find it embarrassing to frequent a store like that. I need to go there for some of the deals there, but it makes me crazy to see them blatantly lying to people. I cannot tell you how many times their scanned prices have not matched their shelf tags. There are expired rebates and coupons all over the store. They have empty tearpad things in the Sally Hansen section that have been there for two months, empty, all tearpads ripped off, and they still won't remove the cardboard. There are big signs on shelves in the health and beauty area that advertise getting a free bag when you buy some product, and if you read the fine print, it was a contest in a magazine that came out in January. It has long since expired, yet the signs are still there.
There is a large immigrant population that shops there, and when I go there I feel like they are robbing those people and taking avantage of their lack of knowledge of the english language by advertising things in that manner.
I spoke to employees of the Target across the street, and they agreed with what I was saying, they had also noticed some pretty crazy things going on over there.
Any advice anyone can offer would be appreciated. I want to take on this store and make sure things change. I want to feel comfortable going there, and I do not like having to raise issues every time I go in. And, just in case you didn't figure it out, I do not give up easily!
