adult kid still living at home...unemployed!
I have an 18 year old. She has finished high school and basic training for the National Guard. When she was 17, she joined the Nat Guard as a split option (goes thru basic and after completing high school, goes through AIT.) We had some problems with her gaining weight, but she was able to complete Basic. When she went on to AIT, they wouldn't let her in because her weight decreased while her height increased. BTW, it was her choice to join but she wasn't willing to "go the extra step" to get in. Our whole family is thin so she knew it would take extra calorie drinks and food to increase the weight. She wanted the bonus money for college. Well, they discharged her but told her she could come back in any time to continue where she left off. Now, she is unemployed and does not show the initiative to get a job. My and my husbands health insurance will run out on her pretty quick, unless she is going to college. Even then, it is scheduled to run out within a year. Then what? I don't give her any money. Yes she is fed and there is a roof over her head. I've already decided the tough love thing. When she gets a job, she is going to help out with the expenses around here. She can live here as long as she is doing something with her life. But she doesn't want to take the initiative. She just sits around all day watching movies and playing video game. BTW, I am going to remove those games as well. We are doing everything in our power to get her going and I've researched this problem of kids not leaving the nest but there is no mention about them not wanting to get a job. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
