Diabetes and supplements- help!
I was recently diagnosed with type II diabetes. There is a lot of information out there about the kinds of vitamins to take and I don't know how to chose. Does anyone know from experience or otherwise what I should be taking? Thanks! -Cindy

Vitamins? No, you have to get your DIET under control. And your blood pressure. And your cholesterol. You have to monitor your blood glucose. You have to take some medications. Not vitamins.
I sure hope someone was not going to come on here and give a handy dandy set up spammy response about selling vitamins. That kind of false information for diabetics in this day and age when insurance in the USA is such a problem is dangerous.
You control glucose through diet, medication and exercise. And weight loss. Not vitamins.
Good grief, what on earth kind of guidance did your doctor give you when you were diagnosed? No meters? No referrals to dieticians? No medications? Just go on the internet and ask about vitamins? You need a new doctor.

I am wondering the same thing myself.

Hi! Thank you for your feedback. Yeah... it seems rediculous. But I have zero insurance and can't afford much medication. So I was hoping that I could find more "natural" ways of maintaining my blood pressure and such.

The natural ways of controlling diabetes are diet and exercise. Weightloss and fitness. Not vitamins.
Don't do this without a doctor. Seriously.
I hear you about insurance. It is impossible to get private insurance with the diagnosis of diabetes. But it is vital that you monitor your blood sugar daily, and that you undertake a program of weight loss and exercise under the supervision of a physician.
The consequence of not controlling diabetes is blindness, loss of circulation, and stroke. We're at risk for those.
See about medicaid, charities, or drug companies helping you with the prescriptions to control glucose, cholesterol, and blood pressure. But please see a doctor. There is a lot of misinformation out there.
No vitamin is going to control diabetes.

One thing that I can recommend is that you do research on "Chia Seed" google it now! The next thing that you need to do is stay the heck away from soda pops, candy, rice, white pasta, white potatoes, IN OTHER WORDS CARBS. Increase your protein intake--chicken (baked, grilled, broiled--not fried!) fish (grilled not deep fried!), turkey (baked) and overdose on all the produce you can legally afford to buy! If you are lucky enough to live by a farm town (at least driving distance) go there and purchase your broccoli, spinach, green beans, carrots, etc. You will be eatting differently then what you are use to eating. With adult onset or type II you CAN get rid of it--unlike Type I. YOU WILL have to exercise and your diet will be--well, for lack of a better word--eating just for fuel. You would never put crap in your car, so why put it in your fuel tank? Everyone in my family has type II--except for me. I know what my fate is if I start eating crap! I'm not saying starve yourself, just eat wisely. If you need some exercise tips go to Ad removed you can look at my free videos and I do offer nutrition advice and menu options. You can also look at my chia seed video, but please google "chia seed" so you are an informed consumer: Ad removed
Good luck and God be with you.

All I found on those seeds was info about how they are rich in omega 3 fatty acids, which is good for you. I guess you could sprinkle them on your food.
But you really don't have to buy anything exotic to control diabetes with diet, exercise, and of course medications prescribed by your doctor.
Red meat will spike your sugar. You really are best with lean meats, and lots of veges, fruits, fiber.
Carbs are ok, but you have to limit them. And exercise. I have found walking regularly is really managable - I mean really walking, several miles, fast, on a regular basis.
Say goodbye to alcohol. Some type 2s I know take an occasional drink of wine, but that is just it - occasional. Beer is totally off the table, as are mixed drinks.
