Hi everyone !!!
I was diagnosed with Type 1 about the end of 2001. I am 30 now. I have had some difficult times and other times that have been great. I was hospitalized 2x's for DKA. (diabetic ketoacidosis) about 3 years apart. I never want to go through that again ... I've had some trouble with gaining weight now that things are getting under better control. I was always used to being about 115lbs and in just under 5 months I ballooned up to 185lbs. I'm trying to get that weight back down - I am not used to having to carry all of this extra poundage with me- and it's tiring. I have a some friends at work that have been exercising with me and my sweetie takes walks with me too and we go to the gym a few nights a week too. I miss all of my old clothes and I want to get back into them so bad ~~ hahaha
And I've changed my meds recently and I've noticed that I'm loosing that puffy balloon look to my body. So my sweetie and I watch what we eat too. I have never been a fan of fast food or soda( thank goodness) so it was easy to keep that out of our diets. And I love to cook at home so that helps to control what I eat and nutritions.
Now we are starting to actively try to concieve our first and according to my doc's (ob/gyn & endo) things are good and hopefully we shouldn't have any troubles but I've been charting and doing my temps for only 3 cycles now. I was wondering if anyone could give me any and some good pointers or personal advice on being pregnant with diabetes. What I should watch for anything.....
Well thanks for reading my rant ! Have a wonderful day !

*kiss*kiss*

Hi, my name is Jenny and I'm also a type 2 diabetic. I do have a question though, what does one do if they've run out of their prescriptions and don't have the $$ to get them filled for a few days? The clinic I go to doesn't offer samples to get me by so any ideas or suggestions would be great!!

I'm Laura, 43 years old and newly pregnant. My OB has suggested that I visit a maternal/Fetal medicine doc to monitor my type 2 and help with the pregnancy. So far I have been controlling with 2 meds but i was told yesterday that they will be chaning my meds and they want my A1C lower than the current level (6.3) I'm not a happy woman right now.
Advice for TTC - follow your doc advice, stick to a good diet for good control and exercise.
The other lady short on funds - if you can will the Pharmacy be able to give you 1 weeks worth for a smaller charge? Ask them to check with the maker of your meds for a low charge program. Also check with the Pharmacy about a lower cost alternative and ask your doctor to prescribe that.

Default from a fellow diabetic

Laura,
Take heart in the knowledge that 6.3 is not as bad as it can be for an AlC reading. When I was first diagnosed, 5 years ago, mine was 9. It should always be below 7.

I have found that common sense when eating makes more sense than tryng to decipher all those rules about starches and exchanges.

I don't eat white bread, pasta or rice. and I do eat potatoes (usually sweet) about once a week. My AiC was 5.9 the last time I tested a few months ago.

I would bet that if you just cut back on whatever carbs you are currently ingesting, you would receieve a lower AlC score.
Write to me if I can help.
i am at heelsdown@earthlink.net. I don't usually answer these posts because I no longer work for families.com, but if I can help you, Iwould be glad to.
Best,
Marjorie
