Default Did you have pain killers during labour

I've been doing some reading up on pain relief for labour, and i'm not very comfortable with the drugs that are used (for one reason or another). I mention this to my mother and said that i prefer no drug pain killers, and got this lecture on how painful labour is (not that she really knows, i'm her only child and i was c-section). So i got wondering how many out there use pain relief drugs or don't or use a more natural method. Also was there anyone who (or the baby) had side effects afterwards, and any who used a method of pain relief that they would never recommend nor use again

I had the pethidene during labour and it made me throw up (may just have been labour itself but happened after pethidene.) It also made me so tired that between contractions I kept trying to climb up on the bed for a sleep. I'd just get up and have to come back down for another contraction. Found the hot shower worked really well.

When they stitched me up for tears (I had bad ones, unknown amount of stitches, thought they would have to operate.) I had the gas and it was great I could feel them tugging and a little pain, ( no more then brushing a big knot out of your hair.) It did affect my sense of touch while taking it, someone rubbed my leg and it felt bumpy, and I thought they were playing pinball music instead of the radio until I really concentrated on it, but other than that it was all good and I'm going to try just the gas through this labour.

The Pethidene made Tristan sleepier than a bub without it but it didn't affect him otherwise.

Well there you go my insight into theworld of labour drugs. labour duration 5hours.

I had stadol with my daughter, when I was in labor for 16 hours before I had my c-section with her, and she was perfectly fine--no drowsiness or anything!

I had an epi minus the fentanyl b/c I'm severely allergic. So it wasn't as strong as the regular epi mix but still did a great job. I felt enough to "push like a pro" (according to my lovely midwife ) but didn't feel enough to be miserable. I actually really enjoyed labor & delivery I only had some residual weakness/tingling in my legs for about 12 hours (needed help walking to/from the bathroom & had a nurse or DH bring the baby to me for nursing).

I had a epi with my first ds but it wore off after a couple of hours! Yes I did feel everything.
With my second ds they didn't have time to give me anything so I had him natural.

I went into labor the morning of my scheduled c/s. I chose not to have any pain meds until I was on the operating table. I got an epidural for the surgery (I was 5-6cm dilated) at the time I finally made it to the table. I did have a severe spinal headache afterwards, but from most of the literature I have read, it isn't that common as they use such a small needle.

with epi were you still about to move around, like on the bed and such, or did you have to stay still ??? ... did you even want to move around ??? ... with any of the pain drugs were you still about to feel what was happening ??? a lot of you had epi with c/s is this a common practice or do the Docs ask what you want before going in for a c/s ???

I know, so many questions :
