Default Tight Wad Gazette

Have you ever read the Tightwad Gazette? For me, it was a real eye opener. The author has a way of showing how costly it can be to go back to work. When my husband and I sat down and started really doing the calculations we realized that I would only be making about $2/hour! Totally not worth it!

Thanks for all of your advice!!! A lot of things have changed since I posted that. I did get a job. It's writing for a local newspaper. YEAH!!! It's what I have always wanted to do. I am covering the town I live in. The publisher wantes me to stay in town and write. So I don't have to sit in an office all day. I work from home. SOOOOO........ That means, I don't need to do the daycare right now. I have a part time babysitter that will come in and watch the baby when I can't bring him along. My daughter, 6 yrs old, is loving this new job. She got to go to 2 theme parks and a festival last weekend when I covered the stories. All I can say is God works in mysterious ways. It has taken me about 15 years to finally get the job I wanted at a time when I didn't know which way to turn. And all I did is call and ask. Gotta love it!!!

Thanks again for all of your help!!!

Altland, how wonderful! Congratulations on your new job. I'm so happy that it will allow for time with your children too! God is good !

We never put our boys in daycare! If we had to then I think we would.

Of course I did. I think he was about 6 months old at the time, and so far he's made it to the ripe old age of 27 without any adverse effects. His own child went into daycare at 3 months and is a happy, seemingly normal kindergardner. Like father, like son, I guess.

Congrats on the new job and the perfect outcome for your family.

When our boys were young, DH worked days M - F, 8:00 - 5:00, and I worked 3 evening 3:00 - 11:00 shifts per week (two during the week and one on the weekend). Our boys were only in daycare for those couple of hours where our jobs overlapped.
We were very lucky because my hospital has an excellent daycare.
Our boys have great memories of the daycare.

This way DH got to be the Daddy when I was working at the hospital.

We have always had a saying in our family.
Parents .....parent..........they don't babysit.

DH became very good with the bedtime routine for two little boys,
snacks, bathtime, stories, prayers, bedtime, on the 3 evenings a week where I was at work. Made for a good bonding time for Daddy and two little boys.
