I used to get along with my mother in law. After my wife and I had kids my MIL refuses to listen to any thing that I may tell her about my kids.
I first talk with my wife about any issues that I may have about the way her mother handle the kids. For instance her mother drinks a lot, my wife know about it but she doesn’t do anything. She just tells me that she already spoke with her mom. My wife seams to not be able to confront her mom.
I had to talk to her mom myself about the drink issues and the MIL did not like it and became very defensive. After that I notice my daughter come from the MIL house with diaper rash several times, I spoke with my wife and she gave me the same answer.
I politely spoke with the MIL telling her that may be the rash was from the pool and we should put some cream on my daughter after the pool or diaper change (I saw the MIL several times changing the diaper without clean the kids). The MIL told me that she raised 3 kids and doesn’t need me to tell her what to do. I can see the MIL become more unwilling to listen and respect me as a father.
I can’t get any support from my wife and I told the MIL to not take personal but I am a father just trying to do my job and I do not appreciate her disrespect. My wife now is very angry with me.
