Default Do you have thyroid disorder?

If you have thyroid disorder, what books, websites, therapies, or other resources would you recommend? Have you tried anything holistic, herbal or naturopathic?

I am diagnosed Hypo Thyroid.
I have adapted my diet to the Goitogencentric diet - the hardest thing about that was giving up the strawberries and the dark leafy greens.
I also have the book "The Thyroid Diet"
And the Drs have me on Synthroid

I have Hashimoto's (auto-immune low thyroid..I produce the thyroid hormone, but it's coated, rendering it almost useless).

Best Book, "Thyroid Power," by Dr.s Shames (he's an MD, she's a PhD). Discusses prescription medication, supplements, diet, stress, etc.

Best Website: http://thyroid.about.com/

Best Supplement (for me) for stress: Drenamin by Standard Process

After many years on Synthroid/Levothroid I found an alternative dr. He put me on an OTC supplement (glandular extract) which was completely void of the most powerful part of the thyroid hormone. I got worse. Then I found an integrative dr. (one who uses both conventional and alternative therapies) who prescribed Armour. This has been the best choice for me.

Armour contains both T4 and T3. Most other Rxs contain only T4; sometimes T3 (Cytomel) is prescribed. If you don't adequately convert T4 to T3 you will likely gain weight and be very tired. If you receive too much T3 it can lower your T4 level as well as lead to osteoporosis.

Yes, I have Graves disease and have had the R-131 treatment and now have no thyroid. I take Synthroid now. I want to change my diet and see if that helps anything.

I've had hypo thyroid for 15 almost 16 years and have gained alot of weight. The doctor said that the medicine Levoxyl or Levoxythrine (spelling) should help it. My suggestion would be to take the medicines 2 hours before or after you eat. It helped me drop 30 pounds.

Good luck
