Question Do you read fiction?

Do you read fiction? Why do you read fiiction? What genre of fiction do you read? What is a book you have enjoyed recently?
I read mostly fiction, but also biographies and poetry. I read fiction because I'm interested in story and characters, and like what fiction teaches about life. I read mainstream fiction, literary fiction, crime, but rarely fantasy unless I'm reviewing the book. The last book I enjoyed was Custody by Nancy Thayer.

I read fiction. I also enjoy memoirs and the occasional self-help type book. I prefer fiction, though, because the stories can be so intricate and creative. I like many different types of fiction, highest on the list being literary fiction and lowest being "chick-lit" or real technical science fiction. I recently re-read The Time Traveller's Wife. It is a very creative novel, and I highly recommend it.

I'm really looking forward to Gregory Maguire's latest book, A Lion Among Men, due out on October 14th! It's the third book in his Oz series. I read Wicked way-back-when before it was a cult sensation (that makes me feel cool), and I've loved most of his books since. I think my least favorite of his is Mirror, Mirror.

Your reply made me think about Fairest by Gail Carson Levine ( author of Ella Enchanted) which I was sent to review. I loved this book based rather losely on the fairy tale of Snow White. It was magic. I fell in love with it in the first sentence.

I'm big into Women's fiction. Some of my favorites:
Joy Luck Club
Kitchen God's Wife
Little Earthquakes (my personal fave)
Snow Flower and the Secret Fan
Memoirs of a Geisha
Charlotte Gray
Bonesetter's Daughter
And I'm sure I'm leaving many out, but those are some I love.

This is a magazine that comes out of Melbourne Uni, Others appear in GoodReading Magazine, Aussie Reviews an online site and my own Write and Read with Dale blog as well as other places. I stillhave about 4-5 books here to review- One was the winner of the CBCA award here in Australia. I'm looking forward to getting into that. I review a lot of childens and YA books and poetry. I love reading, always have. I read mostly Christian Fiction that I borrow from my church library. One of my favourite book series is the O'Malley Chronicles by Dee Henderson... they are excellent.

I don't really read alot of other types of fiction, but I do love the Harry Potter books and also the 'Tomorrow' series by John Marsden

I read widely but don't read a lot of Christian fiction. I do like Karen Kingsbury though and think I have read one of Dee Henderson's. The Tomorrow series got a lot of young people reading who weren't readers, which is great and like the Harry Potters appealed to adults as well. Years ago I attended a writing weekend workshop down at John Marsden's place in Victoria. A great time.
