Does your Hospital Require Pre-Registration?
I have heard that some hospitals do not require pre registration. Which personally I find a little weird. I dont want to be in labor trying to give them all of the information that they need. My hospitals requires pre- registration. Their policy on it however had changed. They used to require that it be filled out and turned in before 30 weeks. Now they want it in by 25 weeks.
So Do you have to pre register? And if so how early?

I have given birth at a hospital that did require it and one that didn't. When they don't require it. . .at least here. . .the doctor's office faxed the information over to them. When I did have to do it, I just had to do it before I gave birth!

The hospital I deliver at I have to pre-register one day before my c-section is scheduled to happen. Now when I actually went into labor with my first ds I'm not real sure how they handled it because they didn't bother me for all my information after they admitted me for being in labor. I had to fill out a brief form but that was about it. I'm not really sure how they handled it. It got paid through my insurance so someone gave them my info, but they may have a pre-registration guideline in place now, even if you don't have a c-section. I'm not real sure.

Well, my hospital "requires" it by a certain time, but I never filled it out with my daughter (or maybe I did - late??). Anyhow, they had me sign a bunch of junk when I came into the L&D. I'm supposed to fill out papers this time, too, but my insurance isn't settled yet, so I doubt I'll have it done on time.

Yes, pre-register for everything ahead of time.
And be prepared to pay your co-pay upfront or give them your CC.
The other reason to pre-register is to make certain that your health insurance
has a contract with the hospital.
What if your insurance only covers at XYZ Hospital in town
and you are at the ABC Hospital?
Unless it is a major emergency/trauma, you will be responsible for any penalties
for being at the wrong hospital.
Also, many insurances require pre-certification and pre-notification of any planned
hospital stay.
It pays to know ahead of time and be informed about your own health insurance.

I have never had to pre-register. I guess my doc's office took care of it because both previous times I walked in in the middle of the night (through the ER) and they took me right up to L&D. The only info they ever asked was regarding my labor.

I'm in Ontario, and they have us pre-register at the hospital near us. Although there are 3 hospitals in town, it is the only one that does birthing. They want it done at 20 weeks, just in case you end up having pre-labour, etc., then you go right up to Triage without going through Emerg. It's kind of nice, actually!
