Drug reaction, or no big deal?
Well, yesterday I had to go to the urgent care clinic and was diagnosed with a urinary tract infection. It has been 100 degrees here everyday and I have been sucking down water like a fish, so I don't know how that happened, but anyway...
She gave me 2 prescriptions, one is Bactrim DS and the other is Phenazopyrid, which I think is just the generic name for Pyridium. I have taken both of these before and never had a problem, but since I have been taking the meds I have had a headache, I am SO nauseous, and now my lips are swelling and sort of tingling. What the heck? It says on my prescrition information for the Bactrum that for swelling of the lips or eyelids that I should notify my dr, but I went to urgent care and I really do not have a general practitioner here yet. Also, I have taken this stuff before and was fine, so . What would you do?

you can develop an allergic reaction at any time in your life so it doesn't matter if you took before and nothing happened, i would go back to the clinic

Ugh! I really, really, really do not want to go back there! It took up half of my day yesterday and it cost me $80!!! I am still in denial that I am having a drug reaction. Maybe if I use some organic lip balm it will be fine. .

Go back, if you are allergic they may not fight the infection as well as they should.

Well, they finally called me back. I spoke to a nurse practitioner, she said that I am probably having a mild reaction to the Bactrum. Said if my lips swell up so much that I have trouble speaking, if my tongue swells up or if I begin to have trouble swallowing I should go to the ER. So far, nothing like that, just tingly red swollen lips. I look like I have had a collagen injection. It is actually quite humorous, my kids are like, "Mommy, what is wrong with your lips? You look FUNNY!"
Anyhow, no more bactrum for me. They are calling in a different antibiotic for me and I will go pick it up in about an hour.
Thanks for your concern everybody! I appreciate it. You know, if it were anybody else, I would be the first one to say go back to the doctor!! It might be serious! But it is me, so I am like, yeah, whatever, probably nothing, probably I am just over reacting, yada yada yada.
