Question Eating Utensils

My son seems to believe that the sole purpose for eating utensils is to simply add distance to one's food throwing.

He goes 100mph with his hair on fire all day long and I have a hard enough time getting him to stop and eat once in a while, but adding utensils to the equation seems to convey the message that food is just another toy.

How do you teach your child to slow down and use utensils? Help?
