Default face lotion for African American baby

Need some advice here. I am foster parenting an African American baby (11 mo) who has chronic nasal drainage and drooling. "Drippy" we call him. His poor little face is chapped beyond belief (subzero temps for days hasn't helped the situation). I apply johnson's baby oil every morning and night, and baby lotion throughout the day. It's still awful. Any products out there that are really good and can be used on baby's face??

my best friend uses johnson's nature's touch (or something to that effect), on her son & says it's the only thing that works. it's the only thing that worked for DD as well. it's thicker and richer than even aveeno (IMO). HTH

I would use vaseline or chapstick.

Try some Eucerin cream. It is thick and you only need a little bit 2 or 3 times a day, but it works really well. My son is perpetually dry skinned and chapped and his pediatrician reccommended the Eucerin when he was about that age. It works wonders.

Perhaps some Aveeno or Spectro products would help...hopefully one of the suggestions that has been made will provide some relief!!!

Thank you so much for your ideas!! However - today I met with the social worker --- and she NOW informs me that he is allergic to lotions with fragrance! (I've only had him for 4 months!!!!!!!!!!!) I've been applying Johnsons baby lotion, Huggies lotion with Shea Butter, and Johnson's oil - none have helped much, but I believe all have fragrance in them. Anyway - does that change your opinions noted above?? Perhaps he's also allergic to laundry detergent, bath soap and shampoo with fragrance as well?? He has been very sick since the day I got him -----terrible sinuses, chronic ear infections (tubes placed a few weeks ago and still getting infections), constant nose drainage and drooling, irritability, puffy face and bags under the eyes, respiratory congestion, wheezing, etc. Maybe there are other allergies???? The ENT is quite laid back about the whole thing.

Aveeno has hypoallergenic and/or non-fragrant creams..Spectro is a line of skin care for rashes etc especially excema and rough dry skin...they have a specific kids' line...HTH..

Might be allergic to lanolin too.

I am.

It comes from wool.

And while I wear wool (like a wool sweater or coat), it is never directly against my skin. Wool directly against my skin gives me the 'itchies' irritation.

Lanolin comes from a sheep, like wool does.

Perhaps the laundry soap is also irritating him.

What can you give him to dry up his nose?
Poor little guy!

Hi! I read somewhere that people have developed rashes or skin problems like you have mentioned because of fabric softeners (won't mention the brand). Maybe this is the cause? I've also read that vinegar can be used as an alternative fabric softener if you or your kid happen to be allergic to the commercial brand. Hope this helps!

My 3rd child had very very severe eczema as a baby. We washed his clothes in plain water and used aveeno and aqueous cream to wash him with. He's 8 now and it's improved with age.
