Default Faith or Fiction?

I personally believe faith is an important part of living this life happily. Who are we to question. But questioning is important, we must know something for ourselves, not just take someone elses word for it. Research combined with prayer and scripture study is my choice of study. Others rely on science only. Who's missing out on the REAL truth?

Thanks for the thread M...I'll do my best.

Who's missing out on the real truth? Well let's see. How much do you rely on science in your everyday life? How much do you believe in this science that you use every day.

Here's a few sciences that Christians accept in their every day lives without question:
Theory of electromagnetism:
Theory of gravity:
Quantum theory:
Germ Theory:
Thermodynamics:
Photosynthesis:
Periodic Table of the Elements:
Theory of Relativity:
Acoustics Theory:
Chaos Theory:
Number theory:
Cell Theory:
Decision theory:
Circuit Theory:

...but:when it comes to Big Bang theory we get:
Science is evil and filled with atheists who want to destroy Christianity everywhere and how can they believe in the Big Bang when no one was around to see it.

When it comes to Theory of evolution we get:
Science is evil and filled with atheists who want to destroy Christianity everywhere and those dinosaur bones were put there by Satan to trick us.

So, in general, science is great and one of the best means of understanding our universe unless it contradicts the writings of ancient goat herders. Then it's evil and wrong.

On the other hand what "truth" does faith offer. The answer is none at all. That's what faith is.....believing something is true when there is absolutely no evidence that it is true. You see. ....if there was any truth connected to faith, it wouldn't be faith would it, it would be fact.

I am Christian and I have never thought about atheists as what you have posted above. Everyone has a right to believe what they like. Who am I but a hypocrite if I don't accept that?

See I find something odd about saying evolution does not exist, it has happened in the last few years with peppered moths in cities, they have evolved black wings and bodies so they are able to blend in on trees which are not lichen laden due to polution. Then also, rats, bacteria and fungi are evolving. So if someone believes in a God why do they not believe God is controlling these things? Why don't the people you are talking about say, maybe God put the dinosaurs there to encourage us to question and explore our faith more.

Yes...personally I believe that when the bible says the world was created in 7days it was stated like that so people could understand it. Who is to say what a "day" is to God? It could be billions of years for all we know...but back then people would not understand that. The BIG Bang could have been just that....when God created the world.

What is the point of believing a religion if you wouldnt stake your eternal soul on it? Sounds dramatic, I know. But in broad strokes religions teach how to live and what will happen when we die. So if you are going to believe in one or the other you would be willing to be eternity on it, otherwise why believe it? Then its just a hobby.

I don't consider science evil, maybe they have spiritual blinders on when it comes to some religious ideas. Some theories just have too much chaos for us. We believe there was more specificity in the plan.

I think that people who rely on both faith and science get the best of both worlds. There have been times in my life that I have prayed for something and it works in my favor. Too many times to call it coincidence. My husband getting a new job 2 weeks after I quit mine, and 2 weeks before I was due to have our second baby. Science can't explain away these experiences that many of us have.

Faith and hope go hand in hand. So I have faith/hope that I was created in the immage of God. I have faith/hope that if I do certain things, read scriptures, pray with my family, I will make choices in my life that will bless the people around me. Is this proven in a theorum? No. Yet I know it to be true.

You're getting the raw end of the deal if you are only relying on what some people in a lab can figure out. There's so much more.

It is a FACT I have witnessed an apparition, the most amazing experience I have ever had. Call it an angel, a vision, or whatever term is used for such an experience. This was and is a FACT,therefore I have absolutely no choice other than to have FAITH.

I believe in evolution within the sphere of a "breed" for lack of a better word that has excaped me. I don't believe that a bug can evolve into a horse. Therefore, I don't believe that a human came from and animal.

Ah but we are an animal, also how come we have almost identical DNA to that of a chimp? A new species can very easily be created from environmental factors, such as physical barriers like water, or even food preferences which lead to the group splitting until they are no longer able to produce fertile offspring with the old community. If you seperated humans totally, southern v northern hemisphere, eventually there would be two species and not one, Neanderthall is a brilliant example of this.
