Default Fall Festivals, Halloween, or All Saints' Day?

Please share your thoughts and traditions
with local fall festivals,
Halloween,
and All Saints' Day.

Do you go to all three?

Do you celebrate just one?

Please tell us.

I'll go to a fall festival if I have time, and if they have decent food or are selling books I am interested in. I have no use for the usual crafts and rummage.

I love Halloween.

The Episcopal church where my family attends usually has a choral requiem for All Saints day. It is often offered in memory of someone who supported the music program, and is very special.

We do all three too.

For Halloween, we focus on the positive autumn activities.
Never had any nasty or evil costumes w/ the kids when they were growing up.
I forgot one in the other thread. DS#2 one time was the Jolley Green Giant (like on the frozen veggies package.) Green outfit, green face paint, green hair. He was a definite hit and won a costume prize.

This is an area where DH and I disagree. I don't see anything wrong with dressing up as something "fun" like QueenAngie's DS who was the Jolly Green Giant. I also do not see anything wrong with trick-or-treating.

Hubby, however, is of the school that Halloween should be ignored altogether. Since we've been together we've gone out to dinner each year so we aren't home for trick-or-treaters. Our church has "Hullaballoo" which is basically a fall festival--Halloween alternative the last Sunday in October. We go to a large non-denominational church and I would say 50% of the kids there are dressed up (a couple of years ago when 10/31 was on a Sunday it was closer to 75-90%!) The Hullaballoo event is pretty big--usually over 5000 kids and we have cotton candy, bouncers, carnival games, concerts, etc. Our son is 12.5 months so it hasn't become an issue, yet.

Right now I am just deferring to my husband's anti-Halloween stance.

We do Halloween and All Saints' Day, which is a holy day in our church.
