Default Family Game Night Creates Lifelong Memories

From the time I was 12 until I was 18, Friday nights were family game night. While there were four kids, the two younger ones would play their own game, while my brother (a year younger) and I would play Rook with Mom and Dad.

Before the game began we'd have tacos (non-hispanic, Michigan...don't ask) and Pepsi. Then we'd play a rousing game of partners; Dad and Gary vs Mom and I. It was a time of laughter and family togetherness, that only ended when I left for college.

While we had a television, we didn't spend our evenings glued to the tube. I would recommend parents to turn off the tv, power down the computer and dig out the cards. Not only is a family game night fun, but it will let your kids get to know you and alow you all to communicate in a relaxed and non-threatening venue.

Our family has always been a big fan of games. Our favorite which we still play when we get together with our adult children and their spouses is Settlers of Catan. There's a lot to be said for less TV and more games and talking fun times. The young grandchildren are now being introduced to games.

I feel like back when I had family game nights, it was always with board or card games... but technology is advancing and I'm thinking family oriented video games would be a big hit. Spielberg thinks so too... so he creatued "something that would bring the family together in the same room, standing shoulder to shoulder with four different controllers."

My family din't use to arrange a game night. We used to go for picnics, every month.

But zekesmom suggetion is good. Group activities also develops positve thinking, loving & caring nature.

We usually play with board or card games at night. It's really fun.
