Default Family Time

I am now expecting my college life now. I heard the college life is awfully busy, and it is the same with you post graduate years and PhD years. And the life those who pursue great careers as CEO or something lead can leave barely no time for family. I, of course, want to have a 'great' career. But I am against giving up family time.
How do you balance?

I have a very strong belief, that if you want a family you should be prepared for them to come first. Before a job, or material things or addictions. (Yes, work can be an addiction!) So just remember to keep the overtime to a minimum.

Congrats on starting college!!!

thanx.
Really, some friends of mine want to give up family for money and career. I don't believe it.

Hi..I am currently a stay at home mom of a 2 year old and an 11 mo. old. I'm also going back to school to become a teacher but I hear teachers work very long hours. How can I balance my time between work and family? Where do I make the sacrifice?

It is important to realize that working, providing security for a family, is also taking care of a family. You will work in partnership with those who will be assisting you in caring for your kids, and you will get a great life going!!!

My husband is a workaholic. He works 7-days a week leaving no time to be spent with the family. We have two daughters and I am a housewife. I do not own a car which means I rely on him to take us out to see the world once in a while. However, his work schedule makes it difficult for him to do so. In the end, the kids and I are left at home, like a living statue or perhaps, a security guard for his home. It is frustrating...

This is a very interesting and timely topic for my wife and I. I'm currently in a doctoral program for theatre, she's the primary "breadwinner" working full time as a high school teacher, and we're expecting our first child this August. One of the primary things that we do is to work on time management and try to get as many things done while we're working as we possibly can. My wife is very good at this and I am getting better. Sometimes schoolwork can be overwhelming for me and there is simply no way to avoid working at home. Our lives will certainly be changing (for the better) this August... but we'll be needing a great deal of support. Hopefully we'll find some good ideas in this thread. I'll post any useful tools I find as well.

I have found 2 books very helpful in getting my life into balance and both are by Steven Covey - 'First Things First' and 'The 7 Habits Of Highly Effective Families'

Read them. They will make a HUGE impact on your life, I promise
