Unrealistic Goal?
I've aimed myself to lose 2 pounds a week for 15 weeks, which would complete my goal of weighing 145 pounds by June. Some of my co-workers told me this was a great goal, but an unrealistic one. 2 pounds a week, it's not like 10 pounds a week. I'm dieting and exercising so I don't see why it would be. Does anyone else think that my goal is 'unrealistic' and that I should set a shorter one?
Thanks in Advance!

i think 2 pounds a week is reasonable in the first weeks you may find them harder too loose as time goes by and you get closer to your weight goal, but if you are determined to do it, you'll do it good luck!!

It could be rather difficult to keep up the 2 lb/week rate. Especially being a woman-you can gain 4 lbs (and then some) when AF comes to visit.
Eat right & exercise vigorously and just do the best you can. Stick with it, if you fall off the wagon climb right back up again. You can do it!

I don't know, mine was 1 lb a week, and I was keeping up with it. My DH said that it would get much harder, but to keep pushing. Once you plateau you will really have to step it up. But I bet you can do it!!

I set the same goal for myself in January, and I haven't been able to keep up with it, I have only lost 6 lbs. But I am convinced that I can do it if I just stick with it. So...I will give you the same advice I am giving myself, if you get discouraged and fall off the wagon--try and try again! Last night I went to the store and bought lots of healthy foods and I ate a very healthy dinner and a good breakfast this morning, followed by (sigh) a fitness workout. Good luck to you.

Yeah, i was pretty discouraged when i weighed myself this week, only lost a pound, but i'm one pound lighter. Hopefully, i can get on track and lose this extra weight i've packed on scince the baby. Maybe with her running around now i can take her to the park when it gets warmer. Thanks for the encouraging words guys. Will keep posted with updates! Here i go.....

2 lbs a week at your currrent weight might be agressive. Or maybe if you are making really big changes in eating and activity, it might be right on. It seems the larger you are the easier it is to lose weight. 2 lbs a week at 300 lbs can be easier than 2 lbs a week at 175lbs. Even on Biggest loser you often see that w/ the smaller women and the big guys.
I know many people find a goal helpful. For me, a former anorexic in high school, I've decided not to set weight loss by goals, instead focusing on making my diet and exercise changes a permanent part of my life. You lost a pound! That is great! Every pound adds up. I just hate to see people get discouraged when they aren't meeting a number they've hoped for instead of being proud of the change they have made. So keep up the good work!! Keep us updated!

I personally don't do well with strict weight loss goals like those. I think it's better to focus on what you CAN control, rather than what you can't exactly. Many factors affect what the scale says -- time of month, amount of exercise, salty foods eaten, even stress. So my goals are more like, "exercise 5 hours this week" and "record every food eaten" or whatever...let the scale do what it will do. If you're making good choices, eventually the pounds will come off.

Hopefully you're reaching your goals. I think most nutritionists recommend about 1 pound/week. That would be burning about 500 calories more than you take in every day. But as maryavan said, if you weigh more, it might be possible to lose weight quicker.
