Default Femular Anti Version?

DH took CeJay to the Orthopedic Specialist today, and we were told that he has Femular Anti-Version ((sp???))

I really have no idea as to what this means, the doctor said that the muscle on the inner part of his leg is not developed enough ((he walks with his feet turned in)). Seeing as he is to young to really listen to direction, there is nothing we can really do. The doc told us to tickle his feet, but hold them still, and this will force him to turn them outward. When he is 3 he will start doing exercises to help the muscle but if it is not gone by the time he is 8 he will need to have surgery to correct it!

DH was the one to take him, so, now I am left wondering what could have caused this? Is this a normal thing in kids?

This is the first Specialist out of 3 that he has to see... Poor kid! Now I am very worried about the others! He has to get his hearing checked, and the ped thought she heard a heart mumer so he has to see a Cardiologist! I just feel so bad for him, he's been through so much since he's been born!

one of my sis's had this but very minor when she was little, my mom and dad put her shoes/boots on the wrong way to encourage her feet to go the opposite way.

Thank you Rhi!! I was looking for info on it, but I had no clue as to how to spell it!

Did the shoe thing help? We were told to keep him barefoot at all times, unless he was going out. If we were taking him to a family members/friends house, we were only to keep his shoes on until we got there. He said that the sneakers he has are fine, but we should find the same ones with less friction on the bottom to reduce tripping. I willing to try anything to help him, even if he looks silly wearing his shoes on the wrong feet The doc said that it will take a long time to go away ((if it goes away on it's own)) and we won't notice any change for a long time!

Hi,
I'm a pediatric physical therapist, and I've worked with little ones with this diagnosis. Special shoes are intended for a different diagnosis - one that causes the feet to turn in but stems from a muscle problem in the feet/ankles. Femoral Anteversion actually comes from the hip - the muscles around the hip are not working properly, causing the bone (femur) to be a bit twisted. Did the ped say anything about physical therapy? Maybe consider asking the pediatrician for a PT referral. The PT can help to stretch the tight muscles and strengthen the weak muscles. They also may be able to do some bracing, splinting, or use Theratogs to help your little one to correct this. Good luck.

Thanks for your help, fostermommy! The doc said that PT would be pointless right now because he is to young to really understand direction ((he is only 18 months old)) and to wait until he is around 3 for that. I had NO idea about the hip thing! He goes to the ped in a week, so I will talk to her and see what she suggests from here. Thanks
