Post filing online this year

Not my favorite subject but I'm trying to get ahead on our taxes this year. I think we're going to file online. I heard about taxbrain on another board and that it offers an excellent all online program and efiles everything. Apparently it doesn't require installation, which i like, because last time i downloaded tax software our computer got a virus . It took weeks to get things going again.

Anyone else thinking about taxes yet?
Has anyone used taxbrain?
Who does there own taxes?

We do our own taxes. My dh uses Tax Act which is cheaper than Turbo Tax. Plus it stores our information since we have a credit carryover from last year. He seems to like it.

We used to do our taxes by paper. My dh and I would each write 'em up and compare and recheck to make sure we had the same numbers. We found we got a bit more through Tax Act. We've been audited yearly by our state and have done alright. Just found yet ANOTHER deduction we weren't claiming yearly since both our boys have IFSPs (like IEPs) for special needs.

We go to HrBlock.com and do ours. It costs us money, but where I work gets us a discount so instead of paying $40 we pay $25 And we just got our returns direct deposited today!!! It only took about a week and a half. Really nice, since we were in a financial pinch this month.

I would suggest Taxact. There is free on-line filing and electronic filing. There is nothing to install and is very easy to use, but thorough. It will not do any local taxes though so you will still have to do those manuall if you are required to file locally.

No personally, I'm a Turbo tax fan. Since we live in New York City, and since I freelance write our taxes are complicated and I feel like Turbo tax does a better job.

OK, I have to ask this.

For the past two years, discussion of tax software has been oh, download taxact. And yes, it is listed on the irs website. But at $99 for the 1040, it is more expensive than turbo tax (haven't priced hr block).

People jump in who only respond to financial threads this time of year and because they don't link or their ips don't match spammers, we let it go. But really, fess up...are you creating "buzz spam"? Because that is SO counterproductive.

We may be pruning some of these posts - please be sure you have a history as really participating in discussions before endorsing a product. Sorry to be this way, but I have spent ALL MORNING on a holiday in the USA taking out spammers.

My Mom is an accountant and she says that all the software for tax season is relatively the same...some just have more "bling". It's like buying brandname clothing vs regular...it just depends on what you like.

We have used TaxSlayer for years! It's only $10 for a normal return, and for military it's FREE!!!

Now that is an amazing price! Is it as user friendly as Turbo? I may just try it out.
