What movies have you seen of your favorite classic novels that you like or don't like?
I probably have seen every movie version of "Frankenstein" "Dracula" and "A Christmas Carol" that was ever made. There are some I love, and some I hate. Think about books like "Jane Eyre" "Pride and Prejudice" "Little Women" "A tale of Two Cities".
Anyone seen the new version of Pride and Prejudice?

War & Peace (Henry Fonda) makes me cry every time but I still love it.
Gone with the Wind is another one that I love.
Oh, and Al Pacino does stupendous Shakespeare - you've got to consider THAT classic literature.

I love the movie Scrooge with Albert Finney in the starring role. It's a musical version of A Christmas Carol, and it's truly entertaining. The music and choreography are stellar, and Finney was born to play the role of Scrooge.

Yes, I love Scrooge too - and Alec Guinness in that one is fantastic as the ghost.
I didn't mention Shakespeare - somehow, he may be a whole new thread. Romeo and Juliet from the 1960s is still one of my favorites - certainly a nostalgic one. My son loves Shakespeare and anything with Kenneth Branagh. As a sci fi inclined family, we have a good time with "Forbidden Planet" which is a sci fi 1950s movie based on "The Tempest".

How could I have forgotten Kenneth Branagh?! He is BRILLIANT!
I thought he was fabulous in Much Ado About Nothing. Looking at his filmography, I can see that there are quite a few movies I need to rent!

Since we're on Shakespeare, how about "The Taming of the Shrew" with Liz Taylor? Classic film, classic literature.

Yeah, that is a fun one! The chemistry between her and Burton is so fantastic and the sparks really fly, as they did in real life. If you don't know Shakespeare, that movie is a good place to start.

This may not be a remake of a classic, I love Shakespeare in Love. It does use a lot of the Shakespeare literature and settings. Plus, I think Gweneth Paltrow is absolutely fabulous in it.
