Default Films that inspire

Probably one of the most wonderful movies I have ever seen is Amelie. It's a French film that covers it all. Humor, depth, joy, sadness. I have never felt so connected to a film. It's basically the story of one girl's journey to care for others and learn to trust, allowing others to care for her. She's an incrdible character and I learn something else from her selflessness everytime I see the film.
If anyone is ever feeling down or a bit depressed. Watch Amelie. I guarantee you will get a new lease on life!

Default Movies that Inspire

My favorites, especially for families, are "Wide Awake," "The Secret Garden" and "The Little Princess."

The Notebook was very inspiring to me. It really demonstrated the power and strength of love, and of how you can really devote yourself to someone. On the opposite side of the spectrum, I also find really funny movies inspiring (ex: The Longest Yard). They're not inspiring for the content, but for how laughing frees my mind to think and create and wonder. Is anyone else affected indirectly by their reactions to movies, rather than my the movies themselves?

Default Hotel Rwanda

I often go to cinema, I see at least one movie per week but unfortunately there are very few movies which really "inspire" me. (at about 1 or 2 a year...) But the last one I saw is a very, I mean, a very, very good film what has made me think about a lot of important things in life, especially the togetherness of the family. This is 'Hotel Rwanda' what I higly recommend for everyone.

I loved Amelie (although, just as a note to parents, the first 15-20 minutes or so are probably not appropriate for children).

I tend to favor off-beat movies and those in a language that I don't know, so most of them tend to be less "uplifting" and more serious about things. Oddly enough, one of the movies that always seems to cheer me up is Dr. Strangelove. The absurdity of what takes place just makes me laugh every time, even though it's certainly not subject matter that most people would call "funny".

We celebrated my youngest son's 15th birthday by seeing an R rated movie! It was one he wanted to see based on his interests - The Great Raid. It was so inspirational, about a raid on a WWII prison camp in the Phillippines. The R rating was largely because of real film footage from that era. Also, there are shots of torture and burning prisoners alive. But I like it because Benjamin Bratt is sooooo hot!
We had such a great discussioon with my son, his friends (all in AP history) and his older brother and girlfriend. I think we were all crying when the movie ended. It was very powerful. But when we looked around, we realized that the median age of everyone else in the theater was around 80. Some of them were checking it out to see if it was accurate. I don't know about accurate, but the boys loved the "action" and the girlfriend loved the heroine. So it is a good action/war movie to see with your girlfriend who does not like war movies. It's not for everyone, but we loved it.

I thought the Notebook was extremely well done. I'm not a huge Nicholas Sparks fan. Actually, I appreciate Sparks' ability as a storyteller; I'm just not into romance writing. I do, though, enjoy romantic movies. The Notebook was about as good as they come.

Cinema Paradiso.

This is an Italian film that was made back in the late 80s. It is such a beautiful film about growing up and losing the ones you love all set against the background of an old moviehouse where the lead character grows up. I cry buckets everytime I watch it. Truly a beautiful, beautiful film.

Again, if you're looking for a film suitable for children, you might want to pre-view this one as I'm not entirely sure if there's any questionable material (it's been a year or so since I last viewed it).
