Default First Major Confrontation with Manager

Yesterday (Sat.) I went to my favorite CVS. During the week when I had problems with my ECB's not going through the evening manager added them up and took them off as one so I was able to use several to get my total down some. I had not used any that generated more ECB's because I was holding so many.
Saturday, being the last day, I had to do the deals. I had a $10 off 50 so I carefully figured my purchases to total over 50 (came to about $59). I had to use the 10/50 first to get it before the total went down. I used 8 manufacturer's coupons, and I had purposely bought 15 items so that I could use 7 ECB's. The register took the newest ones (about 2) and started beeping. Another manager was waiting on me, and she tried all that I had, and finally it took 2 more, but my total was still about $17. I had planned to use 2 more since I had enough items.
She said there was nothing she could do, even after I told her what the other manager had done and the cashier who was there the other evening was in the store. So I told her to call the 800 number. I was embarrased because there were other customers and she was not very happy with me. But even the guy at the 800 number had told me to do that if the manager can't get it to work. She called and at first the rep there was so misinformed that she said you could only use one man.coupon per transaction, which was crazy because I know better, and that wasn't the issue. All of those had gone through. Finally I talked to the rep and she then talked to the manager and told her to add the two others together and overide it (like I had told her to do). She said she could lose her job if the store was flagged by having overrides. Now I will hate to go back there, esp. if she's there. When I got about $24 worth of ECB's on that receipt after only spending about $7 out of pocket she was even more disgusted with me.
Why can't these people understand that what we are doing is just wise buying and taking advantage of what is being offered?? Now I know that my account will still have those added up ECB's until they expire, so I will continue to have problems. I emailed CVS and complained about the 10 limit, and hopefully they will do something when enough people complain, but until then, I guess I will prepare myself for further embarrassment.
