Default Flip Flopping like a politician

Is it just me that cannot commit to a TTC decision. My heart of hearts wants to try again- but I find myself concerned with the logistics of it all. Why can't this be easy?!

Anyhow- I was taking prenatals daily- but had stopped the last few weeks when we thought we'd wait it out. Well, now that I am NOT sure exactly what I want. Originally I wanted to wait until I finished school AGAIN(as after a BS I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up) BUT school has a waiting list for up to a year from the program I want(after 2 semesters of pre-reqs) my heart is leaning to TTC sooner than later. As waiting until school was done I could be at 4 years from now- and not sure I want that HUGE of a gap between K and baby- assuming we get pregnant with a healthy baby and STAY pregnant.

I just rambled- but how long should one be on prenatals before conception to attempt to reduce the risk of birth defects?

TIA.

Confused me

I say go with your heart. I have a friend who has 4 little ones and in school... The oldest just turned 5 the youngest is just over 3mo. She's told me before that it can be hectic and a handful, but wouldn't change it for anything. So if she can do it with that many little ones and get threw, I know you can do it for sure with 2. =) Best of luck either way you go with this. **Big Hugs**

I was told that it is recommended to be on them as soon as you think about wanting to ttc. I was on them from May of 05 to the current. I just figure I need to viatmins anyway so I always take them pg or not. I think if you look into it the folic acid is the main thing they want you on for neural defects. I think I have heard its recommended to be on them from anywhere from 30-90 days pre conception. I think that if your heart of hearts wants to have another one soon the that would be what I go with. In my opinion anyway we had just come off of being seperated but we both knew we wanted another baby and my heart of heart trusted my decision. HTH

If you wait for the perfect tiem to have a baby you will never have a baby , go with your heart, you can always do school part time and with a maraigeas strong as you and Duane have I'm sure you would be able to handle it, good luck !

There is no perfect time. Try not to over think it just go with your heart. You will never regret having a child but you may regret not having one.

Thanks, ladies.
I'll start taking them again. I had a few weeks without but pretty much have been taking them consistantly since December.
Not too worried about the school thing- as the program has a waiting list- but I do need to get a few things in order here first.
I need to get caffeine out of my life(ha) and lose a bit of weight(20 pounds) so I feel healthy. Ideally, I'd like to try to attempt to give baby a good shot with a healthy mom!
I'm 27 so thankfully I have sometime before I really need to push for it- but I do def want one more. So, we'll see when.

I wouldn't worry about missing a few weeks of prenatals. I didn't take them at all.
The ones that my doctor gave me had soy in them, and I am anti soy after doing some research on it.....So I just didn't take them. Other than folic acid before and through the first tri. But my ob said it was to ensure a good weight on the baby. I figured if I ate right I wouldn't have to worry. (After all our food should be a source of vitamins right?)
Well, after not taking vitamins before or during my pg I still ended up with a 9 pound baby. (And did not have GD) So don't worry a few weeks won't hurt.

a good weight? i would hate to see what weight Gabby would have been if i hadn't taken prenatals then, she was only 6 lb (ok size but on the small end) and i've been taking prenatals since 2 months before i conceived her until now and women vitamins for about 3 months before that

I understand your dilema, I am holding off on trying TTC just because my OH wants to wait until November to start trying. He originally wanted to start earlier, I just recently started a new job by November it wll almost be a tear that I started this job so my thing is is it a good idea to get pregnant so early into to starting this job. But I hear what you are saying, and agrre that you should follow your heart.
